Hi all! I am a relatively fresh rider - got my permit and a Honda pcx125 about six months ago. I am a risk taker, and it cost me with three low speed skids as I was figuring out my and the bike's limits. About two months ago, a friend needed a lift (she weighs around 140lb), and I eagerly agreed. Everything went quite weird as I wasn't accustomed to the added weight, so I figured I just had to adjust my cornering and the rest of the ride went smoothly. Yesterday, another friend needed a lift (he weighs around 190lb) and I though that his heavier weight should not make any difference as compared to the previous passenger. This was an awful experience for the both of us ! I realized that I had to give way much throttle from stops, and immediately felt that the rear wheel spun out of control. I tried to adjust the amounts of throttle over the next several stop lights, but in vain: even the most smooth and gradual throttling produced lost of traction at the rear wheel. Although manageable, I felt I did not have nearly as much control as I had with the other passenger. This however was only half of this pickle. Whenever I've approached stopped traffic, I've begun slowing down as I would with the added momentum considered; however, toward the last 50 ft or so, the bike swiwered out of control and I had to just stop using the brakes for a sec to regain control. This was the last straw and I decided to discontinue the ride and let my friend take the bus as I mounted the bike alone, thinking that perhaps something went wrong with the bike. I started riding, and found it to behave just like any other day - nothing seems to be wrong. Now, I was in a car accident a month ago, and the scooter sustained some minor damage to the fairings, but nothing serious. I am now begining to think that perhaps there was internal damage(perhaps suspension?) the tires both inflated (will check PSI today..). My question to the community is, am I alone? Is there anyone who can share a different experience? Thanks in advance for a reply !

UPDATE !! I've been riding for a few days, and noticed that it hesitates when I need it to accelerate quickly (at least 1/2 throttle), but runs ok when already at speed. What happens now, is whenever I feel that its hesitating, I either let go of the gas, and reapply it, or keep the throttle in the same position until it gains speed. I am not quite familiar with the air/fuel mixture ratio terms, but I suspect that it is running too rich/lean. If that's not the case, the other reason (although probably unlikely) is the fact that I've decided to keep my old fuel filter in place, as it is connected to a short 2.5" hose coming from the tank, and then going to the petcock. I've installed the new fuel filter between the petcock and the carb. (I now have two fuel filters). This seems like an unlikely culprit, since as far as I understand, the carb does not suck fuel directly from the tank, but from its own constantly replenishing reservoir. Any help would be much appreciated, again

I got a new fuel filter with the new carb. Will install it today ! Is there a procedure to do to drain my carb from fuel before I disconnect it. I know about the drain tube comming from the bottom of the carb, but, I'm afraid that fuel will continue to flow from the tank to the petcock after I disconnect the old carb.

Hmm... How much are those aftermarket carbs ? Is there a specific model or type I should be looking at ?
Anyway, I will try to open the carb tomorrow. What should I be looking at? I believe that the floater is not stuck right now, because I don't have a fuel leak.

chihuahuas: My carb is the temper free type, so I try to keep the carb dissasembly as the last resort... ridecheap: Indeed my idle was a bit screwed up. I've tuned it to work ! However, After having the scooter run perfectly for a day, it happened again : the engine and carb were flooded with fuel, which than overflown through the air filter and almost emptied the gas tank. after I've waited for several hours for the fuel to drain (I've opened the carb's drain hole) the scooter started working again. Now I'm too afraid to ride it, because it might get stranded someplace far:( I've read alot about the petcock. Could it be it, or should I just go ahead and try to pry open the carb to clean it ? Thanks again !!!

ridecheapchihuahuasThanks for the input, It's great to know that people are willing to help ! After posting, I've went back to the scooter to look at it again....and guess what I've found ? The hose that runs from the petcock to the manifold, I believe that this is the vacuum hose, was wedged between the plastic seat assembly and the metal frame of the bike. I've set it free, and started the scooter. The things is, now it won't stay running without me working the throttle. I was able to run it for about 5 minutes around the block, noticing that it runs well at 1/4 - 1/2 throttle, but boggs and almost dies with anything above it. it died on one of the uphills, and is now soaked again, though the amount of fuel leaking is considerably lower. Any suggestions? could it be the fact that I've played with the idle screw ? Thanks again

Hay Guys ! I'm having a really bad couple of days ! I have a new Taotao50 chinese scooter with a 139qmb engine. I've rode it abut 100km so far. During the first 50 I haven't sped above 25km/h. It was working perfectly, until two days ago, when I started it as usual, drove for 300 ft until a stop sign, and it died, and refused to start. I walked it back home, and have noticed that there is fuel leaking from the air filter. When I do try to start it, I hear the starter work. The manual starter doesn't do anything. The overflow tube at the top part of the carburetor is dripping fuel out. I figured that the carb is completely soaked, so I let it sit for a few hours. The leakage from the air filter stopped after it spilled about 1/3 of the tank. (the tank was about 7/8 full). The engine started, but had bogged and died after a few seconds. Again, there was fuel running from the air filter and the overflow tube of the carb. At first I've suspected that the idle was too low, so I've adjusted the idle using the small screw. I was able to keep the engine running for a minute on the main stand, giving some gas when it felt like it was about to die. But, after a while it died and did not start again. I believe that giving it a few more hours to drain the carb will allow me to start it again, but it will not last without giving constant gas. I've started reading and researching online and had found that two possible causes are to blame: -there is a problem withing the carburetor which does not shut the fuel flow. -there is a problem with the petcock. Mine has three hoses attached: one from the tank, another to the carb and the third to the manifold. Now, for the question: how can I check which one is faulty ? I examined the carburetor, and the bottom part is non disassemblable. I did remove the top part of the carb, inspected the the diaphragm and the needle; both looked brand new and fine.
