Ok, got my new CDI, Ignition coil, and plug wire in and the first thing I did was to try the ignition coil and plug wire to determine if it was the CDI or not and I had the same symptoms (weak erratic spark). Next I installed the new CDI. I had to rewire it as discussed with tvanacman and all of that went well. I double checked everything to make sure I made no mistakes. My red/black wire has 0vdc on it with the kill switch and key off and 12.7vdc with it on, the green/white wire ohmed out to ground, the black/yellow wire runs stright to the ignition coil (I ohmed it out to be sure), and the blue/yellow wire runs to the stator harness and has ~0.5vac when I'm trying to crank the engine and 0vac when its just sitting there. So I put the sparkplug in the boot and held the metal to the frame and turned on the key and kill switch and I'm getting a weak spark without even trying to crank. When I do crank the spark looks awesome (just like the video in my other post). I measured the feed from the CDI to the ignition coil and I get about 5vac with just the key and kill switch on and something like 17-30vac when I'm cranking. I would think it should be zero vac without the trigger but I'm not sure.
My questions are why would I be getting 5vac without a trigger from the pickup coil (I verified it isnt present) and why is 5vac enough to cause a spark? I've read where less than 15vac or so shouldn't be enough to fire the plug.
I havent tried turning the engine over with it like this as I wanted to resolve this issue first. The spark I'm seeing with just the kill switch and the key on is very similar to what it looked like before when i was trying to crank (erratic and weak).
Any help here would be appreciated.

Thank you very much for everyones input.. and thank you BJG..... my question for you is!??!?!?!? Have you ever ordered from iscooterparts? i seen this website and have been wondering if they are trust worthy? I didn't buy the scooter from them but I did buy an ignition key set from them and there were no problems with that.

I have a 2009 250cc Roadrunner and the closest manual I've found for it is for the Yamaha YP250. That manual is available for download in the manuals section on this site (click home and then go to the tech infomation center section and choose manuals->service manuals). Make sure you are logged in or you wont see it. There are youtube videos out there for nearly anything you want to do to your scooter. Watch several before you try anything because (1) you will learn different tips and tricks from each and (2) not all of them are good. As long as you have a little mechanical aptitude you should be able to get what you need between the manual and the videos. www.iscooterparts.com/ will have some OEM parts for your scooter including body panels. They arent the cheapest but its a start.

Hi tv,
My scoot is a roadrunner by iscooter. It's a 250cc horizontal engine and I have just the basic vacuum fuel pump(switch) between the gas tank and the carb (no electric pump).
I measured the black/red wire and I get 13 vdc when the kill switch and key are on. I'm having a hard time uploading a picture of the existing ignition coil right now but the black/yellow wire is there and a second all black one (Gnd?). The wiring going to the stator is insulated right up to the connector so I can't see/take a pic of it without stripping the black insulation back but since we have the other wires accounted for that should be the Blue/Yellow one correct?

Thanks alleyoop, that clears it up a lot. Hopefully the new CDI, ignition coil, and spark plug wire I ordered will resolve this issue.

It's a brand new NGK DR8EA. I was thinking it wasn't right but I don't have anything to compare it against. I bought a new CDI, ignition coil, and plug wire to see if that helps but I'd really like to see how someone elses 4 stroke scoot fires.
Anyway, if anyone is so inclined, I found that the easiest way to post a video on this site is to take the video with your phone and post it to youtube. Don't use the link youtube offers at the time you post it though as it doesn't quite work right for some reason. Instead, visit (view) your video on youtube and copy the link from the location bar at the top of your browser and paste that in between the youtube tags you get when you click the youtube tags button here on the boards.
Thanks for looking.

Ok, I made a youtube account and posted the video there. I couldn't get the video to show up directly here for some reason (I tried using the youtube tags and just the aVekMdl1k9g and it just loads a black screen) BUT the link below does work and you don't have to download anything.

I updated the link in the post above. I'd really like to know if this is normal for a 4 cycle. I know alleyoop said it didn't but that doesn't make sense. If I understand it right a 2 cycle fires on every rotation of the crank and 4 cycle is every other rotation.
Anyway, if you folks could look at this I'd appreciate it. Thanks.

I have a DC CDI that looks like this. The connector doesn't look anything like the vast majority of CDIs out there and it has only 4 wires going to it. I'd like to go with a performance CDI and I'm not sure how to rewire it to match the more common style CDI connector. Has anyone done this before?

Mine is definately not that fast. Is that a 2 stroke or a 4 stroke? I'll try and post what mine is doing when I get home.
