Thought I'd catch y'alles up to scooting in the 'Kat-world. After sitting off for the last year thanks to yet another workman's comp injury (this time to my right thumb, and unlike Unca Leo I'm not comfortable "gorilla-pawing" the throttle, or esp the brake!), I am ready to ride! I double-checked with the thumb dr who said so long as it doesn't hurt unduly then it's fine. Unfortunately, the battery has FINALLY died after 10 years. This despite that my Battery Tender shows steady green-- So ScooterWorld is coming tom to tow Peej in. There he'll sit for roughly three weeks while they work through all the scoots already there for tune-ups. I requested that they try to get the same model of battery. I mean, seriously, TEN YEARS! And yes, for those of you wondering, I did actually inquire about jumping the battery. When he answered well.....yes and no to "Is it easy?", I already knew my answer. I amended to "Is it easy for a total non-mechanic gal like me?" "NO!" Apparently if you don't get the cables off quickly after jumping, the battery can explode. Which means it would in my case. With no video for youtube. So towing it is. He should be ready to go the same time I get back from visiting Dad in Albuq. Which is what I had wanted, since I wouldn't really be able to drive him much until then anyways. I am really looking forward to getting back on the ride! But I am so not looking forward to this year's spring bill. Tow + battery + regular tune-up. Sigh. There goes all my tax refund. >'Kat

I totally misread the header. I thought Piggy had allied with FUton. And was trying to figure out how a horribly uncomfortable sofa-couch went with any scooter (except perhaps a Victory Vision ) >'Kat

The Vision. Yeah, that was it.
I didn't mind the styling, but I thought it was ridonkculously too long.

I never thought how kamikaze was a form of hari-kari. Just one that took out some enemies with you. I've learned my something for the day.

Just curious if Victory is still around and making that Star Wars monster-bike that I think included a micro, fridge, and bed? Thing was as long as my Taurie-wagon! (at least it seemed like it) Btb, 350ish pounds does NOT feel lighter. Not to me it doesn't! But my Harley friend sure enjoyed how much more nimble Peej handled than his big cruiser. Never has told me why it took him about 10, 15 minutes longer to get back to my home than I did in my car.... >'Kat

Gawrsh, thanks Unca Leo! And I think that's your bestest story yet--just keeps building! i can lie here and read your stories all night long! You should write a book. Seriously. I'd buy a copy, but I'd want it signed by you to me! [... squashed small animals,... wee-wee puddles from inconsiderate Diesel-jockeys using their "trucker's friend" at the stoplight... Ewwwww. Dunno which is ew-ier. Talking the Army, Dad told me his bike-stupidness story when I first bought Peej. He bought a small...bike (forget now if it was scooter or motorcycle) when he was in the Air Force. Zero training of course beyond ignition-gas-brake. He immediately hot-tailed around the base, and almost as immediately wiped out on the first corner into a pile of trash. >'Kat

... As for speed, the Vespa may not be all that much quicker to 60 than others, but I suspect it gets to 40-45 noticeably quicker. Riders also report being able to cruise at 75-80 which would be VERY good for a 300cc. ... Until now, I felt they were vastly over-priced, but like 'em or not, they do provide a lot of scooter for the bucks... But they're only for those who want a high-end step-through ride. Not too many buyers other than old geezers like me, or ladies. ... For a practical Italian touring scoot, my dealer has a couple of new Piaggio BV 350's for around $3,400 out the door. [/b] Lots of scoot for the money! Admittedly more all-round useful at half the price of the Vespa but not a true flat-floor. I got on and off them and with my health issues, the Vespa still was a lot more "user friendly". In a choice between the BV 350 and the Honda cycle, I think I'd actually prefer the Piaggio. But, that's what makes it a horserace! Neither Vespas OR Harleys are for everyone, but for those with a "Jones" for them, I do understand... ... Leo [/quote] Gotta point out that supposedly my 200cc can go 70+. I still take Piaggio's word on that. As for Vespa's being overpriced, when you consider that the same-maker Piggys sell for so much less than similar Vespas, there's no "felt" about it. They ARE overpriced. You pay for the Vespa branding. And welcome to the Pizza-side, Unca' Leo! No, not a flat floor, but really, not all that hard to get over the hump. Only problem for me with the new ones, I totally dislike the handlebar light. Maybe 'cause I came to this later in life and am too used to a car's fixed headlight, but to me having the light move with every shift of steering would be distracting. >'Kat

I've dropped Peej four times. Once when trying a U-turn in the neighborhood, before my MSF classes. It's why I'm still spooky about those things! That was really slow with no damage (it was more like a slow settle onto the road rather than a drop). Next was sliding off the road into the ditch 'cause I was focused on possible traffic speeding up behind me instead of on my turn. Third was an unknown cause going through the roundabout. We just went down. It felt like the rear tire slid out sideways. Again, slow speed, doubtful even over 10 mph. The cops who came were the same ones I'd passed by earlier. The one sympathised--"Oh, that's just too bad. And you looked like you were enjoying yourself so much when we passed." A motorcycle cop later said it really could've been anything, some debris (like sand) on the road, even a leaf that blew under my rear tire at the wrong second. Fourth was another settle, I was readying for work and now I don't even remember for sure what I did wrong except something with the slight incline of the drive on the same side as the kickstand. That was almost the worst 'cause Mom was out there and it scared her nearly to death. I hauled the scoot back up with her "pushing" on the back end. Bless her, she thought she lifted it off her daughter. "What would you have done if I hadn't been out here to get that off you?" Well, uh, pretty much exactly what I did, Mom, shift around 'til my feet were under and heave. But yes, Mom, I could never have done it without you! >'Kat

Barely-related thought-- a young man from our church ended up manning the engines on a nuclear aircraft carrier. One time when he was home, he asked me if it concerns me that 18-20 year-olds are running a nuclear power plant. "It does now!" Of course, there is a 22 yo in charge of them.... Wonder if they're that young in a sub? (I was gonna write "wet behind the ears" )

Subbers. Takes way more macho to go around in a tin can knowing there's always a chance something can go wrong and you slowly die, rather than an almost cult-like fixation on "my quick and glorious death furthers our cause".
