it is a roll pin and needs to be pushed out with a punch or drill bit . John it is closed on the opposite side so i'm not sure how to push it out.

Take a hammer bang on one side of the assembly where the hole in the dowel is the other side will pop up. unfortunately i don't understand exactly what you're saying and i don't have a rubber mallet so i'm hesitant to hit this thing especially not known where to hit it. can i just use it as is and move the adjustment nut under the arm? it seems to line up that way but i haven't bolted it on yet.

my new head has 64mm valves. it came with the rocker arms but i can't figure out how to take apart mine. it has what appears to be screws but they just spin. are these things pressed together? how the heck do you get it apart if it was pressed?

My dealer recommends every 1500 miles, of course they are hoping you'll pay them to do it. I passed 1000 a couple of weeks ago and went ahead and did it. Takes 10 minutes and a very small amount of oil, so I see no reason not to do it every 1000 miles or so. My father still has an old 82 Honda Civic that he has religiously changed the oil every three months, and it still runs like new. I think I'm saving money with my scooter, but my dad saved enough by driving that old Civic for so many years to pay for his 5th wheel! i do the engine oil every 1000km. heard it is OK to let the gear oil go for longer so i have only done the gear oil every 5,000km so far. think i have gas in my engine oil so i will be changing that today. a little early, wasn't due for another 300km. definitely smelled gas when i removed the valve cover.

the springs are very weak on the stock head. looking with a bright light it appears the valves are sealed so what would cause gas in the valve cover? weak springs?
i did change the camshaft when i installed the bbk recently. A9... wonder if that could be the problem? heard they aren't all machined exactly alike. think i'll put the stock back in.

the springs are so weak on the stock head that i am certain i could remove the valves with little effort. looking with a bright light it appears the valves are sealed so what would cause gas in the valve cover? weak springs?

yep, your best bet is to just do a michigan left if their is a median in the road. i never get in the left turn lane anymore.

pulled the valve cover off and smelled gas. that can't be good, lol.
i wouldn't even know where to begin to make my own tool. i can't even picture how to use yours. i've seen one tool on youtube that was supposedly designed for valve removal. looked like a bottle cork remover but he still struggled with it compared to the vid above.

i've been sitting on a few parts for my scooter for a while. one major upgrade i would like to accomplish is a new big valve head. well, i bought a cheap one on ebay and figured if it wasn't perfect that i could do a little work with the dremel and also lap the valves myself... boy was i mistaken. just removing the valves is proving to be too difficult without special tools. this kid makes it look easy:
i did smooth out a few casting flaws but other than that i'm thinking of just putting it on as is. it isn't too bad and i can't imagine it being worse than my stock head with 16,000km. going to work on it today. hopefully it goes smoothly. next time i'm buying a professionally ported head.

Yeah, my Tomos Twister 50 takes a whopping 3.3 ounces of gear oil. thats about 100 ml, correct? that is what my atm50 takes also. i changed mine twice. once when i bought it with 8,000 km on the odometer and again at about 13,000 km. i've read many different specs for changing the gear oil. seems like as long as their is some in there then you are good to go for many miles.

JR, i really like the back to the top arrow at the bottom of the page but i don't use it often because it is hidden way at the bottom. is it possible to set it up so that back to the top arrow scrolls with you? that would be another cool feature imo. just a suggestion, appreciate all the work you do on this forum.

i still struggle to tune my sccot so i may be wrong but it sounds like it is running rich. can one of the pros confirm plz. (the second run at the 25 second mark (for those too lazy to watch a whole vid )) if a smaller piston is the problem as millsc has suggested then it's an inexpensive and easy upgrade. (if mechanically inclined) just time consuming especially if it is your first time doing a bbk. took me about 3 hours to do mine but i did take a few mini-breaks so you could probably install it faster.

looks great! this gives me ideas for my scooter. i crashed it once and it already had damage from previous owner(s). my atm50 has been dropped more times than i know. i doubt i will recover what i paid for it if i don't do something to the panels.
