i've never used it. i think Hank (old member) used it in all his scoots. imo i think you are fine with any oil as long as you change it often.

Did you just ask of failure is normal. lol, he means common. i haven't read of this happening so i'd say no it's not common. edit: actually now that i reread it he did say common in the post just not in the title. anyway i don't know what i would do. guess if you don't mind the work then fix it otherwise sell and buy new.

awww, man... i saw this gr8 video yesterday and was going to link it here but they made the video private today. i am guessing for legal reasons... so i'll just tell the story as best i can and you guys can imagine it.
house security camera view of the front yard. young kid probably about 4-5 years old is on his bike peddling on the sidewalk. he turns by his driveway and heads towards his house along side a SUV. video jumps to a 2nd security cam view of the other side of the vehicle. neighbors dog is roaming unchained, ears perk up and takes a peek behind the SUV. spots the kid and rushes over attacking his left leg. with it's teeth clinched around his calf dog viciously jerks it's head left/right pulling the kid off his bike.
within 2 seconds, from out of view, the youngsters cat flies into action attacking the neighbors dog. Mom is apparently watering the flowers out of view, could see a quick spray from a hose as she apparently drops everything to come to the aid of her son. Cat chases the dog out of the yard. Mom sees blood and runs into the house to call 911. the boy survived a brutal attack that probably would have been much worse if it wasn't for the cat-like reflexes of his furry friend.
the vid ended by showing a pic of her sons stitched up leg. vid was titled "my cat saved my son". wish you could have seen it, i must have watched it 10 times. it was amazing!

Here is a video of it in the 1200-1300 range. I think I will go back to the mixture screw and make sure it's set correctly. sounds like it is running lean. seems like the rpm's are hanging after you let go of the throttle. should return to idle almost immediately.

probably what is causing the belt to flop around also. remove the bolt and when you put it back on, squeeze the clutch pulley, pushing the belt in as much as possible. this will give you some slack so you can properly tighten the variator. when you put the variator back on be certain the belt doesn't get pinched. if it is still loose then something else is wrong. edit: nevermind. what alleyoop said above seems more logical. my thoughts are way off here.

I checked the needle last night and it only has one groove in it with a washer and the clip in that one groove. I was able to move the washer from on top to below the clip, but that only netted me a half millimeter or so. Any other advice for raising it? Just find a tiny washer and slide the needle through it, even though it won't seat anywhere? here is a gr8 video that should tell you everything you need to know. goto 6:20 if you only want info on the needle.

I got the new tach installed and put everything back together. At 1800 RPM, my back wheel is spinning pretty fast, but I thought I wanted to idle at 1800? clutch problems, it shouldn't engage at those rpms. it's possible the needle bearings are bad. you'll have to inspect the clutch.

how long ago was the bbk installed? i would suspect it is over heating. need to change the jet imo. the cdi's usually quit without notice and once they are fried they won't work again.
