I have a 2008 TBS 260 w/ 13K miles on it
The brake handle or handles must be depressed. There is a switch on both handles that engages the starter when you push the start button. One (the right one) has to be depressed.
I recently found a loose wire clip on connection to the brake handle switch was loose just enough so the engine would crank intermittantly. Very anoying. I also tested the switches workability and found one not working. Max

Oldbiker - The scoot has over 13K on it
I have enjoyed the ride but not so much the experience as the scooter has been down a lot for many things. Have done many oil and trans oil changes including brakes and coolants Wouldnt start Local dealer was useless, I had to transport it to BMS LA and they found a shop towel hung up in the head and valves. They modified the carb and air cleaner locations so you could get to the spark plug. They did this under warrantee. But I still drowve 800 miles RT and rented a trailer to haul it Variator came loose off the cranks spline, had to file the crank spline to fit the new variator and torque it down. Bent rear wheel due to hard hit on ruts in roads, Blown tire from this and replaced rear wheel. Thread on bolts were useless when removed steel going into aluminum. Aluminum threads stripped out. Brake handle switches twice both sides would not let the scoot start. repalaced brakes, pads, calipers and discs Throttle problems replace throttle control Speedometer cluster replaced due to vibration the cluster came loose and was shaking to pcs. plastic all over the place. I've probably forgotten a few thisgs but in a nutshell its been and experience and I now have a lot of mechanical knowledge I guess I needed. Max

Prodigit - Ironically the belt on this scoot has over 13K miles on it and is down 1 mm in width with no cracks or other evidence of wear. I would have thought a long time ago the belt should have to be replaced. Has no slipping either. I have replaced the variator and Splined face of the variator due to problems with that.
Thanks Max

ok - Sooo I checked the fuel delivery after the filter and gas runs well indicating the fuel pump is working.
I pulled the spark plug and grounded it and turned the engine over and there is a real good spark.
the question now is where to go from here ?
Any help would be greatly appreciated Thanks, Max

Its a 2008 BMS 260 scooter with lots of miles but runs great. (Accept today) While riding I noticed a short loss of power once or twice, kept riding trouble free for 30 minutes or so and then power loss. Had to push it home. Will crank and try to start a little then nothing. It was running exceptionally well til now. Any ideias out there? Seems to me probably fuel delivery! The tank has plenty of gas & 50 miles from last fill up. If this is the probelm where is a good trouble shooting senario. Thanks in advance MAX

I have major difficulties with my 260 as well. The dash rambled loose too. It died many time while out riding. I've done a lot work on this to get used to shooter maintenance. Tires, Brakes, Maifold, Air clearner mods. Bulbs, battery, throttle cable, wind shield, trans & engine oils replacements, variator replacement. some farings due to falls and one by the dealer to dealer transport. The belt has over 13k miles on it. Max

this is for all you guys with a lot of experience on this site. Today riding the scoot, running great, no problems then all of a sudden in traffic, loss of engine power, nothing els just engine power. Got over to the side of the road and the engine stopped. Let it sit for a couple of minutes, then it started and I lightly throttled up to slow speeds and it ran OK for the rest of my ride about 30 miles then home. What in the world caused this annomally? I've done all the maintenance plugs oil, lines, you name it! any help out there would be greatly appreciated. Tahnks MA
