fuel filters and gas line are so cheap and at the same time so important that I usually replace it when ever I have to repair the fuel system. In fact I have a fuel filter with hose and clamps attached sitting in a Ziploc ready to go

well now let's see since all the other lights work and only the low beem is failing I am going to suggest it is suffering from a bad connection in the wires it will be between the high low selector switch and the bulb and somehow I don't need a belittling comment to say that

there is a little spacer that goes on the neck tube nut without it you cannot fully clamp the handle bars. Is the spacer in place?

if your getting backfire its a bad intake valve allowing hot combustion gas to mix in the intake pipe
you need a full valve job
a bigger carb will exacerbate the problem but I am sure the shop would be happy to sell you one and then recommend something else they can sell you that wouldn't fix the problem either
if your carb is small that will effectively drop your power band and increase torque at the cost of high rpm power the easy fix for that is heavier variator weight

if its popping that means it is running rich and that there is an exhaust leak unless it's only popping at no throttle deceleration then it probably only an exhaust leak
a lean running engine will not pop in the pipe because there is no fuel left to burn and an exhaust with no leaks will not pop because any fuel in the exhaust will have cooled below ignition temperature before exiting the exhaust
