SUCCESS!!
found a broken lead on the starter switch. soldered it back on and all is fine in the world...it started!
now all it need is the left brake light switch i just ordered from TVNACMAN and the scooter will be 100%!

it's a chinese roma hornet 150 "motorcycle style" scooter. if it's known as something else i don't know what it would be

connected the red and black wire and it starts just fine. now the problem is finding a suitable replacement for this switch.

thanks. i'll try connecting the red and black to bypass the ignition switch to see if it's bad.

there is one red wire to the ignition switch that's hot. there is a black wire i'm guessing is a ground, a green wire and a white wire. shouldn't the green or white show voltage with the key on???

if the switch is bad would that account for the problems, none of the instruments work with the engine running or that the engine won't start with the starter button?
