Thank you for the words of wisdom, I will start with the pickup. Well what do you know, reaced the pickup and what did I find, but a short in the exciter wire at the connector. The wire was melted, so I replaced the pickup and the exciter wire and rofay I have all my horsepower back and it is not stalling anymore. But now I need to know, does this mean I need to replace the coil? Is it putting out too much voltage, why would it short\melt in the first place? Thanks for any info you can share.

There were droplets on the bottom part of my hand, but my hand was barely wet towards the top. That's good then. Like JR and Jerry said, have you checked for spark when it dies? I know this may sound kind of hard, testing something that happens seemingly random, but it could help. Before I got a Casoli CDI my CDI's died every couple months. Some CDIs are just crud. If you are thinking of getting repacement electric components get a casoli cdi. Also get a real red or orange wire coil. Scrappydogscooters.com sells real stuff, I would check there for those parts. When my CDI's die they usually would die out randomly and I would have to wait for it to cool to start up again, same thing with coils, they act funny when dying. Its not starting at all now, I will pull the plug now and check.

Well, gas is moving, but it was just a mist, hand smells like gas, not necessarily a bad thing. Is that what I was looking for? or should it have been more substantial? Can you go further into detail? When I do the same thing with my scooters the botom lip of the air intake part of the carb drips with gas when I remove my hand. Are you saying there was only enough gas to make sort of a mist on your hand but no actual droplets anywhere? It's possible that even though gas gets to the carb that it cannot move from the carb to the engine if a passageway is clogged or dirty. Have you cleaned out the carb and checked everything? You can check to see if gas flows into the venturi by removing the air filter from the carb temporarily and holding your hand over the air intake while trying to start, if gas is flowing it will get your hand wet. If it is not, your hand will be dry. Lain, I have not but will try that now. Thank you. Well, gas is moving, but it was just a mist, hand smells like gas, not necessarily a bad thing. Jerry, your SSR is the same as my lance. I am a nube, so can you explain how to test the stator with the multimeter. What am I looking for and what exactly do I need to remove to test it besides the fan housing and the flywheel? or do I even need to go that far? Thanks.

I created a valve gasket out of silicone because mine was leaking oil, but the airbox and everything else back on the engine and it fired right up, warmed up and promptly died and wont restart. So CDI failing after it gets enough juice to warm up, caps become erratic, Probably leaking and only produce reliable voltage output when cold? Just tried and it starts and then dies immediately. And now it just turns over but wont start. I am not equipped for this, I repair computers and cellphones not engines and electrical systems. Thanks in advance for any additional input.

Valves were still .005 at TDC It wont even start now, spark is still good and fuel is getting to the carb. Compression exists. I took the spark plug out and covered the hole with my thumb and cranked it and i couldn't keep my thumb over the hole. So must be coil, stator or pickup. I will have to wait for my next paycheck and give John a call to order the parts. Thanks everybody, And yes I will replace the parts one at a time and keep the old ones for spares.

opened the float bowl drain and it was full of gas but still would'nt start. Working outside so waiting for my shade to return before I re do the valves. Will post results.

I did the valves one week ago, I set them both to .005 and it ran great for a day. then started doing the same thing again. I have the bike apart, I will recheck the lash in both, the scoot has good spark, but wont even start now and I dont smell gas when I try to start it, I think I may have but the carb back together wrong and the floats are not operating properly. because it starts runs for awhile and dies like its out of fuel. I hope anyway.

No fuel leaks, spark is strong and regular even when bike wont start. So it will run now only until it gets to a certain temp and then it dies on its own and will not restart,I let it cool off and it will start, only to do the same thing again. Is this a lost cause?

My name is Arron, this is the third post about this issue. but it has gotten much worse.
The scoot wont stay running once it warms up, from a cold start I can ride wot for 10-15 miles with no issue, but if I turn the engine off and don't let it rest for at least a couple hours, it will stall like its getting no fuel. once it dies, it starts right back up, but it will die again, sometimes in a few feet or sometimes a couple hundred feet. This was an intermittent issue, but now it is constant and left me stranded last night. When I went to pick it up this morning, it started right up and got me the 2 miles to my house with no problems.
I replaced all the fuel and vacuum lines, petcock valve and checked and cleaned out the gas cap vent hole. I just bought the scooter used about 3 weeks ago. Its a 2008 lance Phoenix with 8000 miles on it. I am about to tear my hair out. Tomorrow I will be adjusting the valves in the hopes that they have tightened up and are causing the bike to overheat. My air filter is good and I just changed the oil, engine and gearbox. New fuel filter too. When the engine sits overnight, it will run fast and smooth, I see 60+ wot even on a slight incline, but once I have been riding for about 40 minutes or so, I cannot get over 50(unless I am going down hill) and rpm wont exceed 5500(6500 when cold). I also replaced the CVT belt as the old one exploded, pulled the variator and clutch and cleaned out everything.
Now the valves have been adjusted and it was still stalling and when it would die at full speed, it would backfire. So I pulled the carb and cleaned it and fixed the seals on the air filter box and it will start and run a high idle and once it warms up, it will die. If I try to start it it turns over, but wont start. The stator pickup was being leaked on by the air box drain tube and the plastic housing is a little eaten away. but the wires are intact and the circuit tested good. Let me state again, it starts, then dies like its out of gas, but I am getting good fuel, and it warms up fine from cold, but dies and and wont restart til its all the way cooled down. I am at my wits end. I am just not sure what to do next. If any of you have experienced this before please weigh in as I am about to replace all the electrical. One last thing, it will misfire with a brand new plug in it. I will test the spark tomorrow when it wont start back up. i tested it before, but it is worse now, so I will do it again and post the results tomorrow, or actually today. OK, Did the valve adjustment, TDC was not where it was supposed to be. When I lined up the T with the protruding metal fin, it was off by just a hair, so I lined up the two small holes on the cam sprocket so that they were even with the engine case and that seemed to do the trick. On the shakedown run it sputtered once and backfired while accelerating and then it was fine. I think I may go back in and double check the clearances, but the valves were so tight that I couldn't even get a piece of paper between them. I am going to adjust the carb because the idle wont stay down, but she is a lot smoother and has more power for sure. Thanks for the advise and encouragement.
