Performed an experiment yesterday. Rode her for 20 min WOT but didn't shut her off, just slow putted around the parking lot, then turned around and rode home with no problem. As long as I don't shut her off, there is no stalling. Once I kill the ignition and try to start back up and ride hot, Stall stall stall. Let her sit overnight, and I am good again.

So John, I know you are one of the trusted parts suppliers in this forum, as I have been referred to you by another member of this forum, and when I am up and on my feet financially , I will want to rebuild the Phoenix for performance and will be ordering from you because of your knowledge of the 157qmj-3 engine and its unique parts. For now, I just need to make it run. What are the pitfalls of buying a cheap DC CDI from China for 7 bucks besides the wait for shipping.

Spark plug is tight, Put a new iridium plug on it, the one pictured is the old one with about 500 miles on it. Someone else told me if it was the CDI that it would just be dead, either they work or they don't. I went through the entire wiring harness and there are no loose connections or frayed wires. Remember, it only happens when the scoot warms up and I shut her down. After I restart and try to ride that's when the stalling happens, if let her sit overnight or for a few hours, I have been able to run with no problem which makes me believe that it's overheating. Especially when I'am getting more power when its cold outside, like early in the morning. Will tight valves cause overheating? I live in a hot area in Southern California and ride wot for long stretches, 10-15 miles sometimes. I will update when I get the valves done, have to borrow the gapper tool and cant get it til tomorrow so I should be able to do it by Tuesday, until then I will be busing it.

The scoot wont stay running once it warms up, from a cold start I can ride wot for 10-15 miles with no issue, but if I turn the engine off and don't let it rest for at least a couple hours, it will stall like its getting no fuel. once it dies, it starts right back up, but it will die again, sometimes in a few feet or sometimes a couple hundred feet. This was an intermittent issue, but now it is constant and left me stranded last night. When I went to pick it up this morning, it started right up and got me the 2 miles to my house with no problems.
I replaced all the fuel and vacuum lines, petcock valve and checked and cleaned out the gas cap vent hole. I just bought the scooter used about 3 weeks ago. Its a 2008 lance Phoenix with 8000 miles on it. I am about to tear my hair out. Tomorrow I will be adjusting the valves in the hopes that they have tightened up and are causing the bike to overheat. My air filter is good and I just changed the oil, engine and gearbox. When the engine sits overnight, it will run fast and smooth, I see 60+ wot even on a slight incline, but once I have been riding for about 40 minutes or so, I cannot get over 50(unless I am going down hill) and rpm wont exceed 5500(6500 when cold). I also replaced the CVT belt as the old one exploded, pulled the variator and clutch and cleaned out everything. This was intended to be my primary mode of transportation as I am poor and needed transportation to be able to get back and forth to work at non bus hours. I love this Scoot, even though she is giving me so many problems, I just want to be able to ride her without wondering if I am going to get stuck somewhere. Thank you for any direction you can give me.

Will one of you gurus help me to diagnose my spark plug, looks like it might be lean but I would like the experience of a seasoned rider/wrencher. Thank you in advance for all who reply. Arron

After all the trial and error, it was still stalling, until I loosened the gas cap and I rode for several miles with no issues. I will still replace the parts and keep the olds for spares, thank you all for all your help ans suggestions.

I will order the CDI and coil tomorrow(my pay day) and replace all vacuum lines and fuel lines, but I am by no means a mechanic, so the valve clearances will have to wait til i can get it driven to my buddy's house as he is a moderately competent small engine mechanic by hobby. He has promised to teach me the ins and outs of the engine, but he is only available on the weekends, and I have to come to him. I really want to thank you for all the info and time you have taken to try and help, it's great to know a community like this exists to help a novice like myself. As always I will keep you posted as to the progress.

I think the only thing that was ever done to this scoot was a CVT belt change and an oil change. I just changed the fuel filter and well, i took a picture, You tell me if it doesn't look original.

I have good spark whenever I test, but the problem is that the failure is happening at speed and then clears up once I come to a stop. The scoot turns right back over first try every time, but then will die again, sometimes right away, sometimes I make it all the way home. But the loss of power always happens while moving, never while standing still or at idle.

First of all, my name is Arron and I am in southern California. I recently purchased a used 2008 Lance Phoenix 150, it has the 157qmj-3 engine and 16" wheels. The problem is that the it will run fine and then out of the blue, it dies, no throttle response except for a bog down noise. Sometimes it will restart it self just before it comes to a complete stop, and sometimes I will have to turn it over, but it starts right up every time. After the initial stall sometimes it runs fine for several miles and other times I wont be able to get 10 feet before it dies again. The only consistency is that there is no consistency. The scooter has 8000 miles on it, I changed the oil and cvt belt. This is my only form of transpo right now. If anyone has had this same issue, I would be truly grateful for any insight you could give me. My gut is telling me vacuum system, but one of you may know better. Thank you in advance for any help.
