Jerry,
If the engine is not reving past say, 6,000 rpm wouldn't that affect top end speed too?
I'm not sure what RPM my motor is reaching yet. I'm getting a tach. But it sounds like it is not reving very well. Like it's held back.
I wonder if my exhaust is clogged?

Thanks Alleyoop.
I was getting approximately the same speeds as before but it does get to 35 much quicker than it did before so there is definitely some low end improvement.
I'm going to buy one of those digital hand held RPM meters off ebay to determine the RPMs
Do the Big Valve heads do much for top end?

I have a 260cc VOG scooter
The carb is in bad shape. New carbs are around $180.00
Rebuild kits do not exist. I'm looking around for a substitute carb for another 250cc 4t motor that might interchange. So far, no luck.
Any suggestions?
Also, what range should the compression be on this scooter?

I recently installed an 83cc BBK from 02Starrider (ebay). Kit was great. New head but regular size valves. Stock exhaust. Stock cam. New, 8gr rollers. New Clutch (stock), new Variator (stock). But now, with about 100 miles on it, I'm finding that it seems to be considerably slower than most 72cc BBK's. The initial take off is better for sure. But after that, pretty much the same as when it was 49cc. Top speed is 38mph Main Jet size is (was ) but seemed even slower with the . Compression is 150 psi. Needle position is midway. Fuel - Fresh Premium from Mobil Air filter is new but I removed to to see it it was restricted and performance was about the same. Tried removing entire intake air box....no change. Truth be told - I was expecting at least about 45mph top speed with the 83mm piston. Any suggestions?

Scooter, I agree with you on the RLC's My wife hates em. But we have an insane intersection near us that sees probably over 60,000 vehicles per day and of those % of them are aggressive, selfish dolts who think red only applies to everyone else. They just discontinued the RLC's at that intersection after a year because the city says they were losing money at the end of the day. One councilman said losing money is not the issue, it's about saving lives. The others voted for the wallets. Local statistics say the number of FATALITIES dropped dramatically WITH them. I expect deaths at the intersection in 2015 to dramatically increase now that they're gone. I plan not to be one of them.

The one thing I see here the scooter rider could have done is to WAIT...two extra seconds before being FIRST to enter an intersection.
That's what I always do. I never launch right after the light turns if I'm in front because too many people are either willing to run red lights (sometimes as late as 5 seconds or more after red) or distracted.
I CAN NOT believe that woman survived.
The third one, OMG.. RIP. That guy was writhing in pain on the ground but was probably dying from internal injuries.

I balanced my wheels with one of those static balancing stands with the axel shaft and two cones. That gets it pretty darn close.
BUT..to really get it smoothed out, I added 2 oz of Ceramic Balancing Beads to the front and rear tires. BIG SURPRISE! After that it was as smooth as I could want. I was actually very skeptical of those things but whaddya know? They work. Now that I've tried them, I'm adding them to my cars also as well as my sportbikes.
I've found that cheap scooter tires can be WAAAAAAAAYYY out of balance. I mean BAD! So in my worthless opinion I would say ALL cheap scooter tires need to be balanced. Better tires, maybe not so much. Recently installed a Kenda 3.50 x 10 on a TaoTao and it was really smooth out of the box. Didn't need to balance.
YMMV
PS...hey RCQ....where can I get a poster sized copy of your avatar? lol

That tape stuff doesn't last. Been there done that. You could try Brazing. It's halfway between soldering and welding. You can buy brazing rods at Home Dept or Lowes and all you need is a MapGas Torch. The secret to using MapGas is limiting the heat loss of the component while heating it. Sometimes all you need to do is wrap the item with Aluminum Foil a few inches back from where you're brazing. Or if the metal is too thick and you need more heat.... www.homedepot.com/p/Bernzomatic-OX2550KC-Oxy-Map-Pro-Torch-Kit-331673/203391033

Man, Really sorry to hear this. Everything can change in a second. I often think about what I would do in the situation you were in. Where there's really no way out and you have a split second to decide.
I hope you have a fast recovery.
You mentioned that the car driver turned left into your lane and then turned toward you. Any idea why the driver turned back toward you. Bad judgement call maybe?
