I am wondering what the proper way of breaking in a BBK. I know of no WOT for more then 3 seconds at a time. For like 150 miles. My questions right now about break in is:
How will I know wen the break in period is done?
Will I be able to WOT all the time?
I hear that doing this upgrade places a dent in the crank shaft, does that mean I will have to kick start all or most of the time? Is there a way to protect the crank shaft or upgrade it? I really just want to be able to use the key. Instead of kick-starting all the time.
Thank you all so much who responds. I opened a business selling mopeds. And so far it has been an adventure.

New bbk will use oil for a while during breakin , also pull head to see if valve contacted piston causing failure of rod/crank as in chain may have jumped? Put about a dozen 72cc qmb kits none ever failed , did require upping main jet. & they used oil like crazy for 5-10 miles. Really need to monitor oil level untill break in occours ,hard starting = possible low/ no oil? So I got some kits in from the factory. When I put it in does that mean that the customer has to really check his oil level's day in and out. What about WOT. Is there like a do and do not do. During the break in period. And after the break in period will it be okay to do a WOT as much as he wants. I dont want a customer to blow up another engine. Thanks.

I did not change the jet for the carb. But I did install a racing cdi in there as well. I am told that it takes out the restrictor for the rpm. Could that have been the problem?

One thing that I do know. When I installed the bbk. I added oil in there. and made sure it was topped off before starting the engine. And then when I started it I had the front head off exposing the valves and then it was pumping and oil eventually made it through. Should I have checked the oil again. after the engine had cooled?Im just thinking that maybe because there was no oil in the big bore kit chamber maybe the level went lower? Does that make sense or does that even happen. Appreciate the input. Thanks.

Yes the crank broke through the casing on that one. New motor time unfortunately, but they are cheap enough it will cost you more if you try to rebuild that motor. If you every have taken one apart you will notice there is not much clearance between the crank and the case. So when either of the bearings fail and creates some slop in the crank it will hit the case from the inside and bust it open. Alleyoop First off thank you so much to everyone. onewheeldrive, geh3333, stevo684, ramblinman, jerseyboy, tvnacman, alleyoop . It makes sense as when I installed the bbk it would start up right away. And then some time after the customer said it was hard to start. And took a long time. And when he called me over. It would not start at all and the battery was wearing down. And went I tried to kick start it it fired up a bit and I felt a big jolt in the kick start. I have already changed it out with a spare engine I have in stock and now its back to 50cc. So should I add in the bbk again? He did pay me for labor and parts for the bbk. Just scared I may break another engine as now I only have 2 more in stock. Please help. THanks.

Okay I think its finally working. First off may I thank each and everyone of you who have given me great input on whats going on. I have very little knowledge of finding out what went wrong. The big bore kit was ordered from Amazon for 60 bucks. I have very little knowledge on how to asses what went wrong. I followed the video on putting everything together and it ran fine for a bit. There is only 275 miles on the engine. So I don't know what went wrong. My guess is that it was running lean. Since everything else seemed fine. I adjusted the intake to .008 an the exhaust to .010. Thats pretty much all I can say for now. IS there a way to tell whats lean from rich? lean is bad right? rich is good? How many miles on the engine before the bbk ? THere was about 150 miles on it. When I changed the BBK.

steve do you have a picture of the damage ? Could it be because the crank broke and cracked the case ? John How do I add pictures on here? I went to insert picture, and it asks me to add url? its on my desktop and I don't know how to add it as a url. Any suggestions? Stephen

I am the only scooter dealer on my island. And just started. A customer came to me to install a 80cc BBK. And for some reason he returned it saying something happened. When starting it had a nasty sound. And found out after taking off the seat and looking at the engine from the inside that the back part of the engine, where the oil is put in. Has a big crack in it.
I can't think of anything I did wrong. I followed the instructions on the BBK from videos on youtube. tuned the valves, which were 64mm, to .08 intake and .10 exhaust.
I am no mechanic to these mopeds. I have only watched videos. But I have tons of parts and need to know where I have gone wrong.
If anyone can help me. I would really appreciate it. Thanks.
Can email at stephensamuelu@hotmail.com . Can even network and start a business relationship. Thanks.
