12 gauge wire is enough, if you get creative, you can leave the tender permanently attached to the battery, and put a water proof 110V male connector hidden somewhere where you can plug it to an extension when the scooter is in storage.

I hate nanny switches as well, as indicated by P-guy, just strip both cables and tie them together, if it doesn't run, untie them and cover both ends to avoid contact with the frame or engine case.

Troubles Multiply! Ricardo - how many/what type of guitars do you own/play? I own 11 - mostly acoustic - 1 hollow-body arch top w/ 2 P90's... Only 3 left, 1967 Fender Musicmaster II, a cheap Chinese dreadnought (sounds OK), and a brass resonator made by a shop in Virginia; used to have a lot more, but sold most of them to pay for stuff when my house got robbed (didn't play them much anyway, strange thing is that the burglar didn't take the guitars, maybe he was a guitar player as well and felt bad taking my guitars), kept only what I use frequently; I'm looking for a small tube amp to replace a broken POD 2.0

I got it started, finally. Don't think that the problem is resolved though. I will have to let it cool down and check again. One thing I noticed that I am wondering if it matters, is that when the engine is idling there is only 12.5 volts at the battery, shut off it is the same, even revving it up I think I saw 12.6V once. So I am thinking there is a no charge situation. (1) what would that be, voltage regulator? (2) would that have anything to do with the hard starting? You should be getting near 13V readings when the scooter is idling, looks like your stator is not working, or most likely, there is a bad cable or connector causing issues, check all the contacts and continuity on the stator cables.

Also observe if carb slide is rising properly. If not, diaphragm may be deficient. Replacement resource.
Agree, a faulty carb diagram causes the symptoms described.

Have you tried putting the socket on the spark plug first, and then putting the wratchet on the socket? This^ Looks like the only 2 things left to rule out are the sparkplug, and the grounds, double check your grounds, most starting issues I've had and seen are electrical related.
