I just saw a youtube video where a guy changes his belt by squeezing the rear pullery and slipping the belt over the variator. There's no way I can do that on mine. I have to remove the top of the variator, squeeze the rear pulley, place the belt, then re-install the top of the variator. Does this seem normal?

*update* So Saturday I put my new Gates Kevlar belt back on after removing and inspecting the variator again, all seemed fine. I still couldn't get it to light with the electric start, so I kicked it and it started right up. I must've put 50 miles on it on Saturday and it ran great except for having to kick it any time I wanted to start it. The scoot would run at about 35mph @ 7500 rpm. It would exceed this rpm if I kept in the throttle, but I tried not to run it much faster. Everything seemed ok. Sunday, I started it up with a kick again, rode it up the road and noticed the rpm's would run up past 7500 at less than 30 mph. I thought this was a little strange, but maybe it was due to it being kind of windy out. But on my way back from up the road the rpm's maxed out above 8500 rpm for a 1/4 mile at below 25 mph and then...shredded my new kevlar belt I assume because I lost all power to the wheel but the engine was still running fine. I don't know if it actually shredded because I haven't taken the cover off, yet. But I imagine that's what happened

Yes, the clutch does spin freely without the belt. I put a 669 length belt on it, but I never new what was originally on it, since it shredded the first time. Any idea how to determine if the 669 is the correct size? When I install it I have to pull the clutch pulley apart by hand and keep it spread when I install the front pulley.

Thanks for the advise on the CVT, guys
Yes I did remove the variator and clutch and dis-assembled the sheave after the 2nd belt broke. The sheave seamed to be sloppy and prone to sticking, but not sure if this is the issue. But it may explain why it ran ok sometimes and then sometimes would die coming to a stop and then not start. I think I'll order a new one. I've already got a new clutch coming. The rear wheel does seem to have some resistance when I spin it, but I'm not sure what is normal. I need another bike to compare it to.
But at least the subject of "Installed BBK now will not run" seems to be closed (for the 2nd time, lol). I'll start a new thread on the CVT when I have questions.
Thank you all for the help and sticking with me for almost a year. Maybe someone else can learn from my dumb*ss

Ok, I switched to the other performance cdi that I know works, but it still wouldn't light.
But get this... the last time I was able to get it to run, I shredded a drive belt. And basically it hasn't ran since I replaced the belt. Well just now I removed the belt in desperation...and it fired right up!
So now I'm at a loss as to why it won't start with the belt on

Thanks for the ideas, Ricardo I've moved the throttle to every position, but it just doesn't like to light. And Chromestar, lol on the take up knitting part, I think you're right!
But it's a disease now that I can't cure until I get this stupid hunk of chinese crap to start on a regular basis.
I just finished adjusting the valves to a "loose" 0.006" and took apart the carb again and cleaned it....still no start and yes I do have a high torque starter.
I removed the intake and put some lube on the o-rings to see if it was sealing. It appears to be.
There's only 1 scooter shop in my area and he is always busy, and never open when I'm off work for some reason.
Is there anything I'm not thinking of? Any obscure reasons that anyone has seen that might help?

Hi John, thanks, once I get home I'll re-check the valve lash and clean the carb

Well here it is almost a year later and turns out I don't have this damn thing figured out, yet. After throwing the in the shed for the winter, I've been monkeying around with it again. Since the BBK swap I probably have about 30 miles on it. It runs fine at wot it does have some hesitation from idle. But still the biggest problem I have is it usually won't start. Sometimes it will start after a couple minutes of fiddling with the throttle and then sometimes I'll mess around with it for an hour and it doesn't start. Any ideas? I've pretty much replaced everything (twice) at this point: -new carb. (stock size, upjetted to a I think) -new head -new stator -new Casoli CDI -new intake and spacer -new plug -new fuel petcock I've checked for spark = ok compression = ok spark plug is wet if i've been cranking it for a while and giving it throttle have turned the air/fuel screw everywhich way including loose. any thing I haven't mentioned I'm sure I've tried in the past. (Sorry my attitude sucks right now)

Yep, no bubbles. I tried this a few weeks ago but I used water. Using gasoline was the tidbit of knowledge that revealed the problem, again thanks for hanging in there with me

I did the test you recommended, John. And I saw 2 small bubbles coming out of the intake and exhaust valves. So I removed and relapped the valves again and also lightly honed and installed new rings. And finally it started It needs some tuning on the carb and everything put back together, but it finally is able to run Thank you everyone for all of your help!

So today I removed the BBK, and re-installed my original 49cc piston, cylinder, and head. After a few cranks it fired up and revved and idled fine on the stand Hopefully, this tells me that I do not have a fuel or spark issue. It seems odd, though, because my compression test with the BBK was at >150psi, unless that is not enough compression for a BBK. I might check compression on the stock setup before I tear it down. Anyway, I'm gonna lightly hone the big bore cylinder and install the new rings I bought a while back and see what happens.

I hate to ask this, but is there anyone out there who can post a video of their spark plug sparking on a running scooter? Or hook up a timing light to their running scooter? My timing light will not flash and the scooter has no signs of even wanting to start. I did play with cam timing moving it forward and backward a tooth, but now I'm back to suspecting a spark issue again.

K I'll recheck cam timing. My starter wasn't cranking for very long before fading out but I took it apart and cleaned it and shined up the portion where the brushes ride and it cranks for about 5 seconds now before losing power
