ok...I turned like you said, alleyoop. It still wouldn't start, so I kept turning it in in 1/2 turn increments and trying to start it each time. It finally bottomed out and still wouldn't start. I'm thinking about putting the smallest jet (original jet) in and give it another try tomorrow.

I just installed the pilot jet that came with the carb. It sounds like it fires but just not enough to keep running on it's own. When I pull the spark plug it is black. FYI I have the stock air box and muffler on it. This thing is getting on my last nerve. I've never had this much trouble starting an engine (I've never really messed with a scooter engine, though)

ok I'll put the stock pilot back in and give it another try this week. Thanks for all the help. I'll keep you all updated.

Ok I re-assembled the head and installed it. Same issues as before, no start. I re-did my 30 psi test and found out that the pressure was pushing the piston down and opening the intake valve causing the air to flow out of the carb along with fuel. So alleyoop is right I do not have a compression problem. Here's my carb settings atm: 40 pilot jet , , or Main jet. (I got them all mixed up and can't tell the difference) air/fuel screw out 2.5 turns When I crack the throttle while cranking it almost stops cranking until I release the throttle and it will start cranking normal again. When I spray starting fluid in the vacuum line it will fire a fuel times, but i've never been able to get it to run without the starter turning.

Sorry, the heads already off. I did the pressure test with the timing mark lined up at 3 different consecutive rotations of the crank. Each time air blew out of the carb along with fuel. I have both valves out and I re-lapped them. Tomorrow I'll stick them back in and re-install the head and go from there with further diagnostic/trials...could still be a fuel issue but I just had to pull the valves to put my mind at ease. I'll let you all know tomorrow???

hmmm...here's what I just did....I pulled the check valve out of the compression tester and applied 30 psi to the engine at TDC and it would not hold any air. It just came out the carb along with fuel. So I'm gonna go ahead and pull the head and check the intake valve. It can't hurt at this point just to check it out. Even if I did this "leak down" test wrong...I'll let you guys know. Thanks

I just bought a compression gage with the right fitting for use on this scooter. I hooked it up opened the throttle and after 5 compression strokes it read 150 psi, after 8 compression strokes it reached it's peak of 165 psi. Does anyone know what a 82cc BBK should read?

Just re-read Moats post and he may be on to something, I didn't leak test the valves. I lapped them just using my finger and some paste, but I never checked them afterwards...I'll look into this also hopefully this weekend.

Here are some answers to your questions, Alleyoop. 1.) Intake gapped at 0.003 in. 2.) Exhaust gapped at 0.004 in. 3.) carb is same size 18mm that I took off, except it has the air/fuel adjustment 4.) I'm honestly not sure what cam it is. It looks the same as the original except for more numerous holes on the gear. I measured the lobe height and couldn't tell much difference. 5.) I made the adjustment that you recomend 2 to 2 1/2 turns out as a starting point 6.) I re-did the conections on the Batt (-) to the valve cover bolt and put a new wire on the valve cover to frame ground
I'll post a picture of the carb area tomorrow as well as a video of the plug firing cause I'm not sure if it is a strong enough spark or not, it also seems to fire the entire time the engine is being cranked instead of intermittently like only when it's around TDC? Not sure if this makes sense to you...maybe the, video will help.
I've messed with this thing for the last 2 weeks with the same results, so I really appreciate the help.

Hello, this is my first post on here and I've read many similar posts, but I still can't get my scoot running. I bought a 2010 taotao with 1P39QMB (sp?). It has run ok for the first few weeks, however the lack of speed and acceleration was too scary for me, I've owned a couple 2T's in the past and they seemed to be faster. Anyway, I was riding it and the drive belt broke. So I decided to buy a BBK that came with 50mm cylinder, new head, new rockers, new Keihin carb., different size main jet, coil, and cdi. and I also replaced the belt. To make a long story short it hasn't ran since I installed the kit. I've checked for spark on the valve cover and it seems to have a blue spark, the plug never appears wet, but it does get black after several attempts. I've tried starting fluid. It just cranks over and kind of putts as long as the starter is on, but as soon as I let go it will not run on it's own. I've advanced and retarded the timing chain, it seems to have good compression. Honestly I'm out of ideas at the moment, can anyone help?
