Sorry for the double post, stupid iPad won't let me edit... What surprised me was that it ran just fine at night but in the heat of the day it ran lean after 5 minutes of cruising at 45 mph, (not WOT).

There is a header, I cut it right at the muffler. I know riding open header is bad enough, I wouldn't ride with at least a header.

I know it's already been mentioned but I thouht I would stress just how dangerous leaves can be, even dry leaves. 3 years ago I was on my other toy, a lypo powered electric bike capable of speeds in excess of 45 mph (even more if I had more voltage) and 30 miles on a single charge. I was coming to a atop at about 30 mph on a section of road covered in leaves, they were literally covering urge whole road. I just touched my brakes and the front tire locked up and slid causing the bike to flip out from under me. I landed on my left elbow shoving my arm up into my shoulder shattering it into a dozen or so prices, and splitting my humorous down the middle like a piece of wood. I now have a rod tuning the length of my arm from shoulder to elbow with over 30 screws holding everything together. My left arm is basically useless now and is pretty much just for show and it keeps me from walking lopsided. So be careful out there.

Ah, now I see, and you're right. I wasn't even really shooting for that look, truth be told I wasn't really shooting for any look in particular. That would be sweet. I have my work cut out for me. The back rest is almost done, but those saddle bags are going to take some time. There's good reason custom leather work aint cheap.
Leo, I've been contemplating designs for the saddle bags and like you suggest, scoots tend to be a little wider, and this Lance of mine seems to be a little wider than most. I think the key to designing them and having them look right is going to be keeping them a tad on the thin side. I'm thinking only a few inches wide, say a lil wider than a can of soda. That would still give me enough depth to hold a decent amount of items but not so wide that they make the profile of the scoot look funny. Yours are about perfect in size.
I will keep you guys up to date on my progress. I have big plans for this bike that includes way more than just leather work.

Thanks for the kind words! I plan on starting production tonight! I already have the leather to finish the backrest. It's funny that once completed the seat is going to be worth more than the bike.
I agree there is no such thing as too much leather. I have some awesome distressed tan Latigo that I'm eyeballing for a set of saddle bags.

Just finished it and thought I would share. 2 Weeks ago I bought my first scooter a 2008 Lance Vintage. I do leather work and after looking at my new scoot I of course decided it needed a real leather seat. So I set to work using 1/4 inch thick veg tan saddle leather. I didn't want to ruin the original seat so I made this to be more of a seat cover. I first had to make paper templates of the seat parts then I used the templates to cut the leather pieces. The thickness of the leather proved to be a real challenge. I actually ended up using a jig saw to cut them. i1287.photobucket.com/albums/a624/xyshannen1/seat5_zps1eb31030.jpgThe nose piece is riveted to the front with solid copper rivets. I wet molded the peices to the seat, adding a more pronounced saddle bump to the leather. Both the nose and the saddle bump are reinforced with open poor foam. i1287.photobucket.com/albums/a624/xyshannen1/7_zps7f890f09.jpgI then hand stitched the pieces together with a super strong nylon thread then went back over my stitching with a 1mil thick round leather lace. I used solid copper rivets and pig skin strips to fasten it to the seat screwing the strips down to the plastic bottom of the seat. I forgot to mention, I originally had plans to install a new muffler next month as the original one was rusted out. I also was not going to drive this scoot until said muf was installed. So I cut the original one off. Then due to circumstances beyond my control I was forced to put this scoot on the road with an open header. So now reading the boards I realize that I am running lean and overheating at these speeds. So until I can do something about it, (install bigger jets and a new exhaust system) on the first of next month, I will no longer be driving at those speeds in this heat.

Hi, New member here. Thank you all for such a wonderful site.
Now for my issue. I have a 20008 150cc Lance vintage with a gy6 short case clone. Today wile driving it @ 45 mph for 5 minutes it started sputtering like it was cutting in an out. I slowed down on the side of the road and it ran fine at 30 mph for a couple of minutes then I was able to continue cruising at 45 with no problems for a few minutes. But anytime I ran it for more than 5 minutes at that speed it would start to do the same thing. Now last nite I took her out and was able to cruise at 50 for as long as I pleased with no problems.
Here is what I'm thinking, It's flipping hot today here in JAcksonville FL, 110 on the pavement easy. I'm thinking that the gas is boiling in the carb after running it that hard in this heat. I totally could be wrong hence why I'm posting here looking for other ideas. So any help from the experts would be greatly appreciated.
