Thanks for all your input guys. I really appreciate it. I solved the problem.... I sold the scooter!
I was planning on selling it anyhow. When I realized that a new carb was only $40, I would have just purchased and installed a new one if I was going to keep the scooter. I let the new owner know that too. It runs fine with the exception of this one quirk. Thanks again!

2009 50cc Kymco Agility 4 stroke. Starts and runs ok, generally. Not happy that I have to give throttle to start but it starts up just fine provided a little throttle is given.
The problem I'm trying to fix is that when I come to a stop and want to keep the scoot running when I put it on the side kick stand it stalls out. Even if I just jerk it to the left momentarily when idling it can kill the engine.
Any idea what might be causing this? Thanks!

Thank you both for your replies. Alleyoop, after making the initial post and before reading your response I actually tried your suggestion (#5) and the bike would not start. If I gave it a good bit of throttle while cranking it would start but would stall at idle. I managed to take it for a ride in this configuration but there was no increase in power or top end speed. What I found was that in the original is that the vacuum line is sucking in air like crazy and apparently needs it to keep idling??? That vacuum tube is pulling in lots of air through Canister #3. When I would disconnect the vacuum hose to Canister #3 and let it hang free the scooter would run and idle, etc. just fine (of course still with the power problem and only top speed of 30pmh). It's sucking air like crazy through the vacuum hose that was connected to Canister #3 and the moment I plug the hose's intake with my finger the engine stalls.
What are your thoughts on this scenario?

I just purchased a 150cc Chinese scooter. I've had several others so I'm somewhat familiar with GY6 operation and maintenance. Scooter was not running. Original owner started having problems after replacing hoses. As I suspected he had vacuum leaks all over b/c new hoses were not snug. Fixed it up, poured some gas in card and it fired right up. But when I took it out for a ride my top speed was only 30mph or so and very little power.

Previous owner made comment about maybe not hooking emissions control stuff back up correctly. I've never had a scooter with any emissions controls so this is brand new info for me. Below is a schematic of the existing setup.

Question 1: Is it possible that if he reversed the hoses on Canister #3 that that could be the problem?

Question 2: I was confused that of the 5 spigots on Canister #2 that only two of them are used. Is something not hooked up that should be?

What does Canister #2 do?

What does Canister #3 (much smaller) do?

Schematic of my Scooter Emissions Controls

Thanks for any help or suggestions for my performance problem!

Thanks guys, I appreciate the feedback. After I posted my initial post I remembered how/why the AC headlights work the way they do.
I agree that a short is probably the issue. I'll investigate.
Question: what is it that "clicks" sometimes when the ignition key is turned to the 'on' position? Sounds like something is happening somewhere. Thanks!

I've got a typical 150cc Chinese GY6 scooter. Was running great. Then had intermittant problem where it would not start. Apparently no spark. I'd wait a while, try it later and it would start up. Now it's no longer intermittent - the bike won't start. No spark. Replaced CDI, Coil, Spark plug, and stator. Checked battery-frame ground, engine ground, both good. Still no dice.
I don't know why the lights on some scoots turn on once the ignition key is turned but before the engine is started while others will not turn on till the engine actually turns over. My scooter is like this.
My question is: what controls this feature? Is it an electrical component that could have gone bad that is now causing my no spark/no start problem?
Thanks

Ok, here's what I did:
1. I conducted the same test but with the black lead of the multimeter to the negative terminal of the battery. Readings did not change. Same problem.
2. I then took the stator/pick up/flywheel from the good bike and put it on the bad bike. Same problem.
3. I then took the BAD stator/pick up/flywheel and put it on the good bike. I didn't get the jumpy readings but I got no readings from the yellow or white relative to ground. And the headlights did not work.
4. I then bench tested the stators. I had three. The original one off the "bad" bike. A newly purchased replacement for the "bad" bike. And the one off the "good" bike.
Resistance White to Ground Resistance Yellow to Ground Original 0.5 ohms 0.4 ohms Newly Purchased 0.0 (no reading) 0.0 (no reading) From "good" bike 0.7 ohms 0.6 ohms
If you're interested here's a video showing what I did. Any insights? Thanks for your help!

Thanks tvnacman and carasdad for the advice. Your comments have spurred some ideas for troubleshooting that I will try this weekend. I'll let you know what I find out and hopefully we'll be that much closer to a solution. Have a great weekend!

Hello, I have a 150cc Chinese scoot. It starts and runs fine but the headlights are very dim so I began troubleshooting to try to figure it out. Here is a video showing me taking some readings off the stator that just jump around like crazy. Video is 4:24.
I'm not an experienced mechanic and would like some advice as to what might be the problem. Thanks for the help!
