Ok so long story short. Got broken 150cc scooter. Cleaned carb, replaced spark plug, adjusted valves. She ran like a champ. Scooter was dirty so I Washed it off very well , however I left the seat off, but carb, intake and airbox was connected so I don't think any water got into the engine. Few hours later I tried to restart it to No avail.
Things that happened in between wash off and fail restart: -disconnected cdi tried it on another scooter -disconnected ignition coil tried it on another scooter. - removed spark plug
Things i've done to remedy it: -Tested compression read at about 180psi -Checked valve clearance -Checked Spark by holding spark plug near metal (got an arch up to a 3/4 inch away from surface) -Remove sparkplug and ran scooter to try see if it was flooded. -Tried to spray starter fluid directly into intake to see if it would start.
Like I said it ran fine I washed it off set for a few hours and no start no sputter but nice compression nice fat spark and tried to spray starter fluid into hole to get a sputter.

INSTALL A NEW KEY!!!! GEEZE i am a dummy. I just spent the better part of a day swapping out an engine, when all i had to do was get a new keyway, the thing lose all kinds of compression when I swapped also so I ordered a top end rebuild. (do they have a point gun at yourself smiley?)

Update: turns out the woodruf key is sheared off. So I'm going to try to swap with another engine I have and see what happens. I knew I wasn't crazy. Thanks-for all the help though guys.

Yea I never tried to run it without tensioner on it. Also how can I check to see if the chain is on the crankshaft? And no worries on insulting my intelligence I need a the help I can get. I'm pretty sure it was correct what I don't understand is how flywheel precisely to T so the magneto nub is slight past pick up point , test it all goes wrong, take it back off to look again and fly wheel is now exactly opposite of where I had it.

Moderate news: I tore it down a bit and other than two minor scrapes on the intake valve and piston head it looks fine. Bad news: The whole thing is set exactly 180 degrees out of timing , hence the blow back through the intake. How did this happen? I feel as though the tensioner is letting this thing slip consistantly.

I don't understand your first sentence. However, I tried adjusting valves and no difference. Still blowing out of carb instead of sucking in. I am going to tear it down, (again) and see if the piston or valves are messed up in the morning.

I reattached exhaust and now instead of sucking into the air intake its now blowing out the intake. I fear all is lost, I aligned mark EXACTLY with T not a hair in either direction.

Ok will put mark right on the T and re-align cam shaft accordingly. Will also re-attach exhaust. Will report back soon.

I gave that a try. I aligned the marker between the T and F. It starts to sputter up more, but i'm still getting the loud pops mind you the exhaust is off at the moment however it still is popping many times.

There isnt any play from from the flywheel. The woodruf (is that how you spell it?) is firmly in place. Its like sometimes it will try to spin fine and other times it will act like that only when its about to start up. As in when I take off spark plug I got a nice smooth consistant turn over with no kick back. It seems like the timing is off but I SWEAR I moved the head up to TDC by rotating flywheel and then made sure Cam was sitting accordingly. (thats how i feel)

Ok update, I recheck timing . Its definitely at TDC when the holes are lined up correctly on camshaft. However, I have noticed that the magneto spins correctly when cranking them all of a sudden it will spin backwards for a split second. Hince where that big POP comes from. Whats happening?

I will check that shortly I also tried shooting starter fluid straight into it and I get ONE LOUD POP maybe two then it doesnt do anything. If I do that with other scooters it usually sputters up for 2 seconds then dies out. If that helps at all.

Yea my valves where adjusted to about .005 each not perfect but it shouldn't be causing this kind of problem . Also I have tried different carbs with minimal luck. Would a weak ignition coil cause this king of issue?

Hey guys so this scooter came to me in pieces. I notices right off the bat I was getting no spark so I replaced CDI and stator boom spark. However now it seems hard to get it to start. As in I have to manually choke it, (put my hand over back side of carb) then most times it will sputter up to life then die back out after a second or two. I did a compression test 180 psi so I think thats fine I just cannot figure out what would cause this sort of issue. Also sometimes the scooter will backfire extremely hard however I think that may be from it getting too much gas at certain times. Things I have tried: Replaced CDI Replaced Stator Tried different plugs Semi-checked for air leaks. adjusted valves.
