Hey guys so this scooter came to me in pieces. I notices right off the bat I was getting no spark so I replaced CDI and stator boom spark. However now it seems hard to get it to start. As in I have to manually choke it, (put my hand over back side of carb) then most times it will sputter up to life then die back out after a second or two. I did a compression test 180 psi so I think thats fine I just cannot figure out what would cause this sort of issue. Also sometimes the scooter will backfire extremely hard however I think that may be from it getting too much gas at certain times. Things I have tried: Replaced CDI Replaced Stator Tried different plugs Semi-checked for air leaks. adjusted valves.

One of the first things you should do is adjust the carb. In the tech section there is a great write up on how to adjust the carb. Have you had the carb apart to see what size jets are installed? These things come with pretty much random jets installed from China. I had to go up about 15 sizes to get mine adjusted correctly. Surprised it didn't kill itself in the first 1000 miles I drive it. Always better to be slightly rich than slightly lean.

Also, what did you adjust your valves to?

Yea my valves where adjusted to about .005 each not perfect but it shouldn't be causing this kind of problem . Also I have tried different carbs with minimal luck. Would a weak ignition coil cause this king of issue?

Re-Check your timing, bring the piston up to TDC and then make sure the Cam Sprocket two little holes are even with the TOP of the head, THEN check your FLYWHEEL and see where the Case Pointer is pointing to on the Flywheel. The Case pointer should be pointing to the First Line before the "T" mark on the flywheel or close to it BUT NOT AFTER the "T" toward the "F" mark or NOT to Advanced to far from the "T" mark. I will check that shortly I also tried shooting starter fluid straight into it and I get ONE LOUD POP maybe two then it doesnt do anything. If I do that with other scooters it usually sputters up for 2 seconds then dies out. If that helps at all.

Ok update, I recheck timing . Its definitely at TDC when the holes are lined up correctly on camshaft. However, I have noticed that the magneto spins correctly when cranking them all of a sudden it will spin backwards for a split second. Hince where that big POP comes from. Whats happening?

sounds like a kick back . Is there play in the flywheel on the crankshaft ? I would check the starter clutch.

Where is the Case Marker pointing to on the Timing Marks on the Flywheel when you have it a TDC? Can you take some pics of Cam Aligned and the Flywheel at that point. I sounds like the timing is to advanced. Alleyoop

There isnt any play from from the flywheel. The woodruf (is that how you spell it?) is firmly in place. Its like sometimes it will try to spin fine and other times it will act like that only when its about to start up. As in when I take off spark plug I got a nice smooth consistant turn over with no kick back. It seems like the timing is off but I SWEAR I moved the head up to TDC by rotating flywheel and then made sure Cam was sitting accordingly. (thats how i feel)

you too far advanced
your cam and crank is off , 3 holes on the cam gear and the pointer on the "T" mark .
be sure the chain is on the crank gear and seated .

YEP, it is to advanced, make it so the MARKER is pointing to the LINE JUST BEFORE THE "T" or on the "T". To do that move the Chain on the cam sprocket ONE LINK over. Let us know if that worked for you. Alleyoop
