It is the luck of the draw with any cdi. Color means nothing. They are all mass produced ..painted.. and packaged in China by numerous companies that like to copy one another. The only sure way to tell if a cdi is advancing the timing at higher rpms is by hooking up an induction timing light....taking off the flywheel cover and observing the setting with the engine running. I have tried orange-blue-3blacks- and recently a black one that claimed to be adjustable. The only one that actually advanced the timing was the orange one. At idle it was 2° btdc and would advance to 12° btdc between 2 and 3 thousand rpms. All the others were set at between 10 and 12° btdc. With no change at all at any rpms. The adjustable one was the same with the adjustment screw making no difference at all. All the ones with the 12° btdc resulted in a faster idle. But with the advanced timing at low rpms it puts more strain on the engine under full throttle acceleration. The orange one at 2° btdc and then advancing to 12° btdc is smoother. Just my 2cents. P.S. I am not promoting the orange one. Like I said. The next orange one might not have the same results. Any non believers out there please check your results with a good timing light.

I have the orange cdi and coil. I checked with an inducive timing light and the timing does advance with increased rpms. My question..... With the hotter spark from the coil would it be advantageous to run with a wider spark plug gap?

[replyingto=terrilee]terrilee[/replyingto]Terri Sorry to hear of your bad luck... Speaking from experience I would recomend that you get some antidepressents. There are many available and in your situation I think it would not be hard to get a prescription. Another mood lifter is provigil. Hard to get a scipt but available on line from India. Best luck my friend.

As far as getting the right torque. I use a hammer and small chisel to mark the not and the shaft before using an impact to remove the nut.
When I reinstall the variator it is very easy to get it back to the original posistion. just take your time and impact a little at a time once you get close.

A friend gave me some valvoline full synthetic synpower 5w40 oil. Would this be good to run in a 150cc scoot? Opinions welcomed.

My scooter has a 60mm Big Bore Kit with a High comression Piston, High Compression Valves and a 3mm stroke crankshaft and a bunch of other performance parts and i live in Puerto Rico where the temp is usually always + year round. I run Amsoil synthetic in it. Never ever had a problem with overheating. Now my other scooter has a 62mm Ceramic Big Bore Kit and a 6mm stroke crankshaft and a bunch of other stuff and that one i have a Taida Oil Cooler kit installed (still not finished) Good info.---I am going to go with the sythetic oil and forget about the oil cooler.

Problem solved.. Flash player was set to always on. I changed the setting to on demand and that cured the problem. Why? Beyond my comprehension. Thanks to all for the replies and help.

Having a scoot with a 170cc BBK. Deristricted intake and exhaust plus performance ignition.. I was thinking that I may need an oil cooler this summer to protect the engine. But since synthetic oil keeps its viscosity and performs well at high temps. Maybe it would be just as advantageous to run synthetic oil as it would be to have an oil cooler.[After break in with conventional oil of coarse.] Give me your thoughts. TIA. Mak.

Although this is unlikely the cause of your problem, it might be worth checking - make sure "Show Images" is set to "Yes" in your "Profile">"Modify Profile" -> "Account Preferences" section. Did that.. all were set properly.

Instead of pics or icons that are supposed to display on the home page and posts I get a small blue square with a ? In it. I do not have this problem with other forums. (Scoot doc) (scooter professor). Any ideas? What are you using? W7 or W8? Delete your browsing history and make sure your system is updated. JR I am using a kindle fire.. I have done that. Did not help

I would think that it is not something with my kindle fire. All other forums display properly.
