I have a 1 year old Tao Tao Thunder 50 and I really want to replace the crappy stock sealed carb on it. Any recommendations as to what kind and good places to look? I also have a sneaking suspicion that there is a small chance that it may be a secret 63 if that is possible for this model. I'm a pretty small guy(130lbs.), but it can go 45-50 mph on a flat stretch without much trouble.

BTW, Scrappy is sort of THE ONLY PLACE you need for china scooter parts.... JMHO.
The E-bay site may provide a cheaper price for some items...
If indeed you are already doing 45/50 MPH, There is not a lot left for a 50cc to do.......
Good Luck and Ride Safe !!!!!!!!!!!

There are two main reasons that I want to replace the carb. First, it is running a bit lean and I want to be able to tune it before I have issues with heat. Second, it has a habit of bogging down and dying coming off of idle at about 1/2 to 3/4 throttle and I think tuning or an accelerator pump will clear that up for me. I ordered the Keihin from scrappy, but they are back ordered and offered to send "an 18mm CVK Pre-Jetted # carb w/performance air filter" without charging the $10 difference. Should I send the go ahead? And should I order some other sized jets as well right away? What do you think

I would be sucked in to a 50mm hoca BBK and 150cc carb.. Just release some tention on carb side mounting screw. If a necessity. Those are hard to tune/keep plus you would like 50mm Hoca BBK better.Should have 50mm (dished out head) or will blow til chuncks come out to the cealing! Follow youtube vids...-scrappy (BBK install)-nthefastlane-(smokie Joe) Fredrix out

Well whatever you do, you should definitely get a jet kit, i have a 150 so i cant help you with the carb advice tho. Every bike likes a different set up, so the only way to rly find out the optimum jetting is to try a few out.

If you get an unsealed carb, for tuning, The name brand should make little difference..... about 10 dollars it seems... and a bit of waiting..... Jets can be replaced with the cab offered.. It maybe just what you need........
Just sayn.......

Sol... I think you may just have a nice gear set in rear end... I had a sim model cy50T3 X3 what ever ya want to call it. She was geared perfect. I just did a BBK on my brand new 50cc Wolf RX scooter and gotta wait now after all I did to install it for some $$$$ to come in. Getting a 16x42 rear gear set. Whatever is in it now,way under geared! That's life though. Point is I think Taotao scoots are geared nice from factory.

Sounds like sol doesn't really need a new carb, he needs to clean his current one and possibly get some jets and unseal the mix screw. The way you talk about it sol sounds like you think that screw is going to change the mixture of the scooter altogether, but the screw only controls idle mix. If your scoot is running lean when you are moving and it didn;t used to do that you may have a dirty carb or something else wrong.
