Btb rocky, you were totally correct about the bulbs. The one I got, the bulb part itself is shorter and flatter than the new one. I didn't know the same type of bulb might not be the same.
The new base's socket also seems a little higher than the old one's. I'm betting the globe sits almost touching the bulb in the new one. I'm tempted to test out if the non-LL bulb in the new lamp will make it work correctly. But I'm too worried I'd somehow pooch things, so that won't happen.

So here's the final update on the replacement lamp--
After just over 8 hours, we had massive quantities of all diff sizes of balls going everywhere in the globe. Simply incredible. I had no idea it would be like this. My little one doesn't do it like this. Totally awesome.

That looks really good and now i'm jealous!!! I get a blob every now and then. Most of the time i get a big hunk that floats at the top. I don't leave mine on for more than 2-4 hours though, usually just when i'm watching a movie or two.
mftic, according to the lava lamp lady, you need to leave it on for minimum four hours. Even the little ones. My big one she said shouldn't be less than six hours. Otherwise the lava never really gets heated enough to flow properly.
And you do not run it more than ten hours regardless of size.
Tonight's flow is less ballsy, more tubes going to the top. Weird how utterly different it is from the first two nights. Like right now it's made a HUGE glob at the top. Still fascinating to watch.
Edited to say that I agree, I think mine is PERFECT! I love when it makes lotsa balls going all over in there. Karma for dealing with the intestinal lamp, I suppose.

No idea, rocky. I'd say PM JR about it. Me, I couldn't even manage to post it myself. Bless our wonderful JR, he took care of it for me. He takes such good care of all of us.
Btb, I'd say it's worth the effort to get the vid to play. You not only get to see the lamp in action, you get to hear me gushing about it. That alone is worth the price of admission there.

I've given it a rest tonight and last. I must say, my room is far less friendly to come home to at night with the lava lamp off. I foresee running it again Thurs. And probably Fri.
I love my lava lamp!
Anyone know of anyone who'd want an intestinal lava lamp?

If I were local I'd consider taking it on to try my hand at refilling it.
How about a timer to fire it up so its all warm and cheery by the time you get there?
If you were local I'd let you have it. But I'm not shipping this brute anywhere, weighs a ton!
I don't think it's the liquid that's messed up. Well, except that I made it cloudy by checking the coil while it was hot. It's def' the lava that has the issues. Maybe I'll try posting a picture of the intestines tom.
And the timer is exactly what I've been using. Otherwise I wouldn't have eight hours running time, neither before nor after work. That's what makes it so cheery when I do get home, 'cause it's already ballsing around by then.
