I did a little project for school on the history of the motor scooter. I just got my grade for it yesterday and was pleased to get a 100%

Excellent! Thanks for the trip down memory lane!
Note- I edited your link to remove the s from https, that prevented it from being viewable.
Note2- I don't ride scooters because they are less intimidating than motorcycles, in fact I like to leave motorcycles behind taking off from stop lights. Nothing like hearing the rapid shifting behind me as they try to catch up!

Understand that this was presented to a class of motorcyclists, most of whom just can't grasp why I prefer scooters to motorcycles.
And thank you most kindly for fixing the link

Scooters are the kings of city traffic, a crotch rocket and a big bagger is useless in rush hour

I don't know about useless, but certainly more frustrating. All that gear shifting is a pain. Been there, done that, sold the bike and kept the scooter

I can see why you got that 100%. Very well done. I love the little touches of humor you included. Except the nitpicker in me has to point out that the pictured scooter for the VW has a BMW logo on its front.... Meanwhile, I would totally be the lady saying "I say the scooter is dreamy." Years ago, there was a tv series called "Stingray." I was watching with another gal, who started commenting on form and curves and lines and oh-boy hotness. After minutes of this, I realized she was talking about the man not the 'vette. Oops. Her bad. >'Kat

Thank you for your kind words though. I'm glad you liked it.

Hey, GREAT job! Have a bone on the Old Chopper Guy...I too (in my old age) have gone from big bikes to scooters. Handy, nimble, affordable and yes, in the city, doggoned near "ideal".
When I was young, I didn't find a Harley bagger or chopper any problem in city traffic at all, BUT that was many years ago, and lots of muscle, lightning reflexes and no arthritis made a MONUMENTAL difference! And, with all due respect, any time I can pull ahead of a crotch-rocket capable of 0-60 in under 2 seconds in first gear, I'm pretty sure it's because the rocket-jockey is in no particular hurry... LOL! But... All things considered, I'm STILL hooked on scooters for the long haul. If some miracle should restore the strength, agility and finances, I'd have to climb aboard a new Indian. But I'd still keep the scoot for most of my riding!
Scooters "are what they are" and have become well-respected members of the two-wheel fraternity. No longer just for those who can't afford to drive a car. No longer for those wishing they could have a "real motorcycle". Nope... They're for those who love and appreciate them for what they are, and where they've come over a century. My old "Minnie Mouse" Kymco 250 is nearly as nimble in the city as my old Chinese 150 was, AND nearly as enjoyable on the highway as my old Harley Electra Glide was. In many ways (like BRAKING and cutting through the wind) much BETTER! And, all for a couple grand, and $100 a year for full-coverage insurance. The 80- mpg fuel mileage doesn't hurt either!Scooters are COOL, and have gotten MUCH COOLER over the last 30 years. They'll never fully replace motorcycles, or cars, but they aren't meant to... They are a SOLID alternative, in a separate class of their own, providing many advantages... Enough advantages to induce even the most hard-core biker, or muscle-car owner to add scooters to his/her stable!
Thanks for the effort on your video! It should appeal to anyone who drives/rides ANYTHING!Leo in Texas

I double checked for mumbles, but I couldn't find where I said VW. Thank you for your kind words though. I'm glad you liked it. My bad, this time. I just plugged in my little beefy speaker. You're right, you say "BMW." I thought you'd said "the VW." Blame soft LapMac speakers and no hearing aids. I also loved the Dalek comparison. >'Kat

Your presentation was far more interesting and comprehensive than I expected.Well done. The goped/autoped info was especially surprising. Who new Amelia Airheart rode a goped!

Nicely done however in Italy the Lambretta, Vespa, Piaggio and Aprilia were not fashion accessories but every day work horses. Most are capable of hauling a quarter of a ton compared to the competitions 230 to 330 lbs. The big Lambretta were used as the foundation for 1/2 and 1 ton trucks and eventually a 4 ton model capable of hauling more stone, marble, etc than a full sized American Pickup Truck.
The downfall of Lambretta in Itally in part was that they had a stationary front fender which made them difficult to maneuver in tight city traffic since it stuck out so far and riders were prone to misjudging clearance and would nick the bumpers of cars they were weaving through.
The King of the Sport Scooters today is the Aprilia SRV 850 ABS with Traction Control. The British tested out an early model without ABS and found that was the only thing really lacking on the bike and Aprilia has taken care of that. In the early tests the BMW showed how important the ABS and ATC were on the track as the novice rider unfamiliar with the SRV 850 tended to be more cautious powering out and braking into corners losing time while the BMW riders would just lay into it:
0 to 130 MPH loaded for touring with top and side cases:
The way it pulls from 80 to 120 and then keeps on going is quite insane for a scooter. 150+ MPH with Dr Pulley and better flowing exhaust is possible. I need one to get to work however they don't bring them into the USA.

Fortunately, you can still find some used Aprilia 850 Manas in the states with the cvt. They were sold here until a few years ago.

Currently the only one available here is a beater with over 10,000 miles on it for about the full price they were selling for when new. Its the naked, banged up and looks like they did not flush the coolant or take care of it as they should.
