Scamping Report Spring 2013
Grand Canyon Grand Trip
4 Days 630 Miles
Got a late start 2 pm Saturday, trip
seems to never go as planned but that
just part of the adventure.
Loaded for Bear
About 20 miles before Bullhead City, spotted a
couple of RV's with a campfire going. Pulled
in and ask if I could pitch my tent. Said yes
gave me a hand with the tent and after that
gave me dinner. Good people and a good night.
Been to Laughlin before so didn't stop there
but a nice view for across the river.
Just over the hill
These are thing you never find going any faster.
Stop in Kingman, AZ for breakfast, some of the
best biscust and gravy ever.
I know I carry a lot of stuff but you never
know what you will need.
My rear wheel just out of Kingman pickup about
6' of thin bailing wire wrapping around rear axle.
First tried cutting and pulling out, but didn't work.
Force to pull off rear wheel which meant unloading
all. But that got me back on the road.
Traveling old Route 66 has it sights.
At the end of 66 had to travel the shoulder of I-40
the last 20 miles to get to Williams AZ.
An interesting small mountain town worth the visit.
Almost to the South Rim of the Grand Canyon.
Made it!
Was about to rent a spot for my tent at a
RV Park when they told me the the temp will get down
to 20 degrees that night. Surprise I rented a room
at tourist prices. I guest you need to be prepared.
Look a the map and temps if I when around to the north
side of the rim. Choose to return the same way I came.
Strange place for breakfast.
One of the better stops.
Spent the night in Kingman just to have those
biscuts and gravy again.
Return on US
Choride, AZ 4 miles off of
.
If you are on US
near Hover Damn, the Choride turn off is
worth the 4 miles to the town that has brought a whole new
meaning to junk art.
Even the views close to home, are great.
Life at 30 mph just doesn't get much better.
Planning my next ride, God and Wife willing.
