i was going full tilt up a super steep hill today and there was the POP but a loud pop and the scoot lost power so i had to pull over. Its still starts and drives fine but when i am going up hills now its as if the engine is choking.. like completely losing power for a few seconds then powering back up again do you know what it could be ??
Bike is a puegeot 50 cc vivacity

Okay... A bam is never good. To work through the problem it happened on a steep hill. That means a lot of load placed on parts. Get ready to check various components as members suggest solutions.
The first question is where do you think think loud pop or bam came from? If the scooter is still running the engine could maybe ruled out. Have you looked inside the CVT? First thing I thought of was the belt. Going up hill with that stress maybe the clutch.
We need you to start looking at parts to find something "weird".

Could have been the torque spring in the clutch.
It also could have been a backfire, because of a leak in one of the vacuum hoses, or a crack in the intake hose, or the manifold. The lean condition is causing you to lose power.
Your petcock could be crap, also. Replace it with a manual shut off. Like Joey said, check the CVT, then check ALL hoses, and the intake manifold.

I can only Guess a seal was blown....... ( as the scoot still runs ) Bogging down seems like a fuel issue of some type......
Are ANY fluids leaking? What mods have you made? If any.....
Oil on the ground after sitting for a while? A strong smell of Gas, or maybe some real damage was done........
BTW,
WELCOME TO THE FORUM!!!!!!!!!!!!
GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

vacuum leak? I am hoping the "bang" was out the tail pipe? Was it a backfire or a mechanical type of noise?

Thanks so much for all your replies! yeah im fairly certain the bang came from the exhaust. And i rigorously tested it today.. the bike starts perfetly on the kick.... it ticks over lovely but after test on different inclines including the flats.... i have found that after the throttle is opened half way it starts chugging.. like as if someone is turning the power off and back on again its very embarassing but if i keep the throttle less than 1/2 open she drives beautifully....no smoke or oil or anything like that although after the bang yesterday i did notice a sort of burning smell... so i was thinking it might been a backfire.... im inclined to think it might be fuel delivery related.....
keep your suggestions coming and thanks one again!!!!!!!!
p.s the bike is completely stock is a 2002 puegeto vivacity 50cc (spanish plates) and is ridden in Spain
Thanks

Check and clean your carb out. Maybe your main jet came loose somehow, maybe the diaphram is torn? Either way it's always good to clean it out periodically. Clean the air filter too, maybe your engine is suffocating because of a mouse or another unknown passenger is hiding in there.
I would just take everything off and clean everything honestly, a full cleaning will also mean you will be giving everything you can possibly take off a real good look. I would go as far to take the intake manifold out, the carb and filter, the muffler/exhaust off, the cvt case off and everything taken out of the cvt, the engine case shroud if you have one, and the valve cover to check the valves and see if there's anything funny going on up in there, just don't remove the nuts/bolts holding the head of the engine down.

I know what you mean with the throttle bogging at WOT, that's a carb issue, too much fuel or too much air, since you said it banged at WOT going uphill, I suspect too much fuel is being delivered (running rich). Check if your air filter is clean, and try adjusting the A/F screw, also, check for vacuum leaks, you can check for vacuum leaks by spraying carb cleaner on the hoses and joints of the carb with the scooter idling, if you notice a change on rpms at some point, then you found the vacuum leak.

On the technical section of the forum there are lots of information on how to tune a CVK carb, it is easy if you are not afraid of wrenching a bit; the vacuum leak test is very easy, you just need a can of carb cleaner and spray the thing until you find a leak or not. itistheride.boards.net/board/34/fuel-air-carb-all-sizes
