I would say the Blast has good power but it was not designed for top speed. It was designed as a beginners bike. The smooth power from that big single makes it easy for new riders to learn how to use the manual clutch. The 250cc Ninja is faster, but the high rpm engine makes it more difficult to master the use of the manual clutch. Nobody wants to stall their bike while pulling away from a traffic light.

They make a 515 drop in bbk for the buell blast , that gives it much more power. I hear it doubles the horse power .

I actually like how it feels at low end . its funny , I never use to strap my helmet down when I road the scoot , I'd just button it up without tightening it down . I had to strap it on when riding the buell, it felt as if my helmet was going to fly off my head after 2nd gear.

I've road dirt bikes before , and the buell blast is much easier to get into first without stalling. Actually I haven't stalled it yet . I did almost lay it down in my yard. I was heading out onto the road from my yard and the grass was wet . the rear wheel almost kicked out from under me .

Uhh...a Blast has VERY little power! For a 500cc , yes it is not as strong at top end as it should be. It has great low end torque. Its enough power to run a little over 90mph . they are a low rpm bike. It redlines around. 6000 or so rpms. So its mainly a cruiser. It revs higher than that...I recall the power peak is at 7100rpm.

They were horrid new and haven't improved with age!

I like those handle bars.... I prefer an upright riding position but, love the cafe racer/sport style ( go figure ) they look adjustable though..... The fairings, Personally, I like the idea of keeping things stock looking---- That is your decision though. As for this being a beginners bike, well, I have a lot more fun on smaller rides so this is almost the perfect bike. Sure you could tune it to whatever you want but, between 40 and MPH is where all the fun is. After about 80 mph you can really scare yourself and get in trouble.......... JMHO. Whatever you decide, I wish you GOOD LUCK!!!!!!! look out for the other guy Please, Keep us updated.........

Original tires? Those things must have morphed into granite or at least a nice schist ,,,get those damned things off of it before you wad a nice bike,,,please I second the motion.....don't bet your life on old tires. When I bought the 99 BMW, a couple of years ago, it had 5771 miles on the clock. I changed all of the fluids, adjusted valves, installed new plugs, checked and adjusted tire pressure, lots of tread left......so off we go. (Wifey on the back) A couple of weeks later, while washing the bike, I happened to notice the DOT date code on the tires. Had to look it up online to make sense of them, and discovered that both tires were produced in the summer of 1998. I parked the bike until the new Pirelli's arrived from Motorcycle Superstore. I should have noticed this when I brought the bike home, but failed to. I feel lucky to have gotten away with riding on 15 year old tires for a couple of weeks.....but I'm not a gambler, especially when the stakes might cost a life.
