Bought a new 2014 Aprilia SR Motard 50 in November, and the dealer told me to bring it in at 620 miles (1000km), to have it's first service. The scoot is up at my summer residence, and the season is winding down and I only have about 200 miles on it. I called the dealer and asked if it was too early to bring it in for the service (which includes checking valve clearances). He said it wouldn't need the service yet, but the oil should be changed before storing it for the winter. The service manual recommends eni i-ride 5w40 synthetic oil. I am having a hard time finding it locally and was wondering what would be suitable alternatives. Would Shell Rotella t6 5w40 synthetic be a good choice?

I called Piaggio and asked this. The answer was that their bikes were designed to use Synthetic Motorcycle Grade oil for the anti-foaming and anti-coaking properties. Any motorcycle store should be able to get you the correct motorcycle oil required bt Piaggio to maintain the warranty.
You can also order the correct oil on-line from AF1 Racing one of the better Piaggio/Aprilia dealers in the US.

Thanks for the info. I actually looked at AF1's website, but it would have cost me $25 after shipping for 1 liter of oil. Maybe I should have kept my chinese scoot. HaHa! I was looking for a cheaper alternative to the eni i-ride 5w40 synth. But if something else could void the warranty.....

Is there a shop nearby that sells motorcycles/scooters/ATV's? I bet that they would have some Yamaha, or Kawasaki, or Honda synthetic that would work with the warranty.
I just use Valvoline, or Autozone brand synthetic in my Chinese jobber, but I'm not worried about any warranty.

Actually, there is a dealer nearby that sells Honda's and Kymco's. I'll check them out. Thanks.

I have owned and ridden motorcycles since November of 1965. I have never bought, or used any "Motorcycle" specific oil. I have never experienced an oil related failure.
If you have a wet clutch, then you need something designed to be used in that application. If not, any quality motor oil will work just fine. Find any brand with the manual's specified weight, and use it.....in your case, a 5W/40. They can not void your warranty because you didn't use an oil with their name on the bottle.
Rotella T6 is a fine lubricant. If it will save you a couple of bucks, use it......you will not be hurt your ride.
Not a fan of synthetics myself....I don't leave oil in an engine long enough to warrant it's use, so I use a conventional 15W40 in all of my 2 wheelers. But if my manual called for a 5W40, I would not hesitate to use Rotella, Mobil, or any other, more readily available brand of synthetic.

Thanks for all the replies. I checked out a Vespa forum (Modern Vespa), and since my Aprilia is made by Piaggio, which also makes Vespa's, I wanted to hear what they are using. The Shell Rotella T6 5w40 synthetic seems to be the overwhelming choice. And it's relatively cheap. I think I've found my oil.
