You don't use your feet on a T&G scooter -- if you can sit on a chair you can sit on a scooter. That foot looks good, not gory at all. Gory was when I ran a finger thru a table saw. Blog Just kidding. Take care of you feet, they need to run many thousands miles more.

Thanks Paladin. That's the same reason I've been all over this board lately Ha! Kind of boring lying here all day, not riding. I was thinking about this for some time before I went in, problem is I have a rear FOOT brake on the right side so when I stop, the right foot brakes and the left goes on the ground. I even practiced holding front brake, putting right foot down but c'mon. It's a sentence I have to serve and might get off early for good behavior. But If I mess it up I go back for a loooong time.

Walking to the scoot maybe an issue for a while............
My mother was recently hospitalized for Diabetic foot ulcers........ Bone infection/replacement is as painful as it gets IMO (teeth maybe comparable)...
I wish you well my friend!!!! Please eat something with the antibiotics and pain killers, Rest, Wiggle when you can and, keep it elevated!!!!!!
You DO NOT want a Pick Line or home nurse visits........ JMHO.
Please be well, take care of yourself!!!! Keep us updated too!!!!!!!!
GOOD LUCK!!!!!!

Take it from one who's been there 10 years ago, and going again next month--
FOLLOW DR'S ORDERS EXACTLY!!!!!!!!!!
Mine told me not one step without the shoe thingy. Sit on my butt at work for a couple weeks. No barefoot for a year (that was a real killer for me!). I would've worn one green sock if he'd told me to. Thing is, my final visit after that surgery, he was impressed and amazed at how well my foot had healed. Well, duh, it's 'cause I followed his instructions. I figure I paid many hundreds of my own dollars for this, plus many many thousands of insurance's money. I was NOT about to screw things assuming I knew better than he did.
I'm getting both feet done this time, left for the same issue (the big toe's bone shifts back until the little space that should be between bones isn't there), the right for that plus a Tailor's bunion (my outside long toe bone angles out more than it should). I'll see him once more for a pre-surgery and shall ask if I'm off scooting the rest of this year, or when I can go again. Sigh.

SylvreKat Wow. Both feet! Bummer... but in the end it's worth it to be in less pain on a daily basis. Mine was keeping me from doing a lot of things in life and it was time to take it back. Not going to blow it I'm into this for about 3 grand already. Scooter can wait. My problem is I've had some time off before this and I was riding twice a day till my rear hurt, I was getting gas almost every day. And now cold turkey, I still have part's coming in the post!

Mine aren't stopping me from doing things, but they both trade off hurting. Which is why I asked for both at once. I originally was getting just the left 'cause at the time it hurt most. So of course after setting the surgery, it stopped hurting nearly so much while my right took a week to remind me just how much it can hurt. I didn't want to pick which might be hurting more by surgery time. Since the left is apparently pretty minor as surgeries go, doc agreed to do both together.
Plus that'll save money--won't have to pay twice for surgery room, anesthesia, etc. ***** As for your parts, your dr should allow you to be up and about fairly soon. Get a little shop stool with wheels, then go at it--being careful of that foot though! If you're not put in a big bootie, maybe buy one anyways, just to protect your foot from accidental bumps while you work on your scoot.
Based on your incision, your surgery was worse than my first one was. My scar is maybe half that long. Dunno about the swelling etc, I think I never took off the bandaging I let the dr do all that. I'm about as medical as I am mechanical, ha!

Is it time to talk about sensible shoes and such?

My dr said that wearing high heels at church was okay, since we Lutherans don't stand the whole service but instead do the stand up-sit down-stand up again method of worship. As he put it, sounds like we work our bodies along with our souls, ha!
As for my assortment of black work shoes, he liked the New Balance best. Then the (I think Skechers) pair I got at Sam's Club that weigh almost nothing. The rest he deemed acceptable, except funnily the pair that the saleslady swore was the most comfortable pair she'd gotten for work, which he said was good for short times but def' not for work with me standing all day.

Yes they may look stylish but.... Remember Pippi Longstocking's comments on sensible shoes? In my youth I maintained a swimming pool for a well published podiatrist from the Boston area and really got lectured about footwear early by her so it has stuck with me. Box toe boots good while pointy toed shoes, boots, etc equals bad. She would maintain that most folks would be better off wearing the shoe boxes rather than the shoes that came inside them. Yes some conditions are hereditary but the vast majority are the result of poor choices in footwear. I wear a Quadruple E width however sometime it is tempting to save money and squeeze into a Double or Triple E but afterwards you eventually pay with bunions, hammer toe and other ailments. Anyways the proverbial Clod Hoppers are whats best for daily wear and serve you better when riding a scooter.

howdy, I do sympathize with the shoe dilemma as I have a closet full of shoes and nothing to wear. am down to wearing my house slippers to ride the scooter. oh well, I can graduate to the Velcro strap diabetic type shoes again soon which will at least hove to come off in a "down" before the ankle will become hamburger. it does feel a bit weird to be all over town in my slippers.

Bare feet can get stripped of all flesh on the toes pretty quickly in a simple off even at 20 mph or less. Even putting a foot down in flip flops or slippers while the bike is still rolling could leave you with a crippling foot injury so what one recovering from foot surgery could get I would not want to imagine. Please don't ride until recovered enough to wear riding boots on the scooter.

I can't imagine driving any vehicle in slippers. I'm always uncomfortable just pulling my car out (or in) the garage without shoes on. Plus I value my feet as much as my hands (considering how much they're going to cost me, I have to!)
As for narrow shoes, you're right there, rocky. Even my heels aren't all that pointy. Doesn't matter I'm not standing in them all that much, they must fit and be comfortable. When I get new shoes, if they seem okay after I put them on I wear them around the store for 10, 15 minutes to make sure. One reason I dislike shoe-shopping, it can take a stupid amount of time while I make certain they fit. And even then, I sometimes don't get it right.
However, too big is almost as bad as too tight. Your feet do weird things when a shoe's too big, trying to make them fit, and keeping them from sliding when walking.
>'Kat, preferring bare feet over shoes, at least at home...and church...work during lunch...band rehearsal....

Come on Gurlfriend you know pointy spiked heels are sexy! (just don't wear them all the time, or your arches will revolt!)

Mornin'. My career path requires I wear steel toed boot/shoes. In the past 26 years I've tried them all, shoes, boots both steel and composite. The last few years I've been satisfied with my Magnum, composite toe, size 12 EE. I also keep a second pair in the locker, some days I'll change out for the last few hours of the day, really helps out. On some days I'll stand and stand, others it's walk walk walk. The best days are a mixture between the two and some azz time sprinkled in with it.
My over the ankle riding boots are great for riding, I used to ride in shorts, short shirt, and whatever I was wearing for shoes. Uggh. Not anymore, it's not that I don't trust myself but c'mon we've ALL seen some real crazy crap out there. This year I went all out, mesh jacket, awesome! Mesh gloves, equally awesome. Found some mesh shirts to go under my mesh jacket, you can't beat it. I've came home chilly from some rides! Having 20+ stitches in your foot's a great reminder that pain sucks and avoid it if possible. Some people will never protect, that's fine, I won't ask them to. It takes me quite awhile to get 'ready' for a ride but I always come back satisfied.
