I remember watching Dusty on Saturday nights when I watched wrestling during the late 80's to early-mid 's. I wasn't really a big fan of him back then, but I'm sure if I was a lot older back then I would've appreciated him more.

I used to see the end of some wrestling show that came on right before Wide World of Sports, back before it was all soap opera and show, when there was still some actual wrestling going on. I don't remember the name Dusty Rhodes at all. I would watch for Bulldog Bob Brown, 'cause he seemed shorter than most and not so beefy, but usually won his matches.
Gosh, I haven't thought of Bulldog Bob Brown in years. Thanks for reminding me of this memory.

George the animal steal , Andre the giant , days.

Oh, I know it was all scripted out. But back then, it wasn't just about all the show and bombast. There was some actual wrestling that went on. And it went for many minutes, rather than "one move, bombast for a bit, next move, bombast...." Plus all the outside the ring garbage. It was about the ring back then.
Sigh.
I guess men needed their equivalent of women's Young and the Restless. But while I didn't watch much of wrestling back then, I avoided it like a plague-dog after it changed.

Talking Andre the Giant--somehow back in college, I got on a catalog mailing list. And got one with all sorts of wrestling merchandise. Including a shirt I really would've loved to have. On the front was Andre's handprint, on the back his footprint. It came in one size--"Andre sized". I remember at least three models could've fit in it. The one they had was holding it open and it still hung like a blanket. Very cute. Still wish I had bought it.
