Always add oil and check levels when cold. After draining the oil , I usually start the scoot so the oil starts to cycle through the pump,then I'll shut her down and I'll check the level to see if I need to add more. If it shows fuller when hot , don't worry about it. Just check it again when cool. Id only be concerned if its low when hot, which means its probably even lower when cold.

When you guys check the oil do you usually see much different between cold engine or hot engine?

When i check it complelty cold, it sometimes can be almost half of the dipstick, and when engine is hot,
it can be almost at the top of the dipstick.

Your plug looks ok, definitely on the rich side, but that's good. Do you always check the level while on the center stand?

After your rebuild you SHOULD have changed the oil after, say, 50 or 100 miles ..... then again after 300 miles .... and thereafter every 500 or 1000  miles.  It sounds like you just rebuilt, added oil and then rode.

During breaking - especially in the first 50 miles - a lot of metal comes off the rings.  Most get caught in the screen 'filter", but no where near enough.  So if you never drained and cleaned the screen you are running with a ton of abrasive material floating around.

ps:  check oil  with the dipstick NOT (NOT) screwed in.  Just find a flat spot, put on center stand (important), unscrew the dipstick, place it back in (without screwing), pull out and check.  Check with engine stone cold - oil half way on the cross checked area is good.

pps:  plug looks fine, so there is no oil blowing past the rings.

I changed the oil after a little less than 600 miles after the rebuild.
When the scooter was new, i also rode it for a little less than 600 miles before changing the oil.
This was done by the dealer here when it was new. And there was no problem.
I also was changing the oil only every 2500 miles. dealer orders. and the scooter made over 62,000 miles like that.
Every one here change the oil like that with these scooters.
When i changed the oil after the rebuild, the screen filter was pretty clean. Maybe the SYM parts are more precise.
Here the dealers also telling you to use a semi synthetic oil, which is basically mineral oil with additives.

So if it's not blowing the oil past the rings, it means that it's not burning it?
Where the oil went? it's not a lot of oil that is missing but still, it didn't just disappear.

Do you think it will remain at half of the dipstick or will continue to drop?
I now at 800 miles since the last oil change, so i still have 1700 miles to go until i'll reach 2500 miles.

Yes, i know it's done a lot of miles. I never expected it to last that long.
See my post from almost 2 years ago, when i crossed the 100K km mark (62k miles).
I did the rebuild when it reached to around 72K miles.


So i checked the oil today again, and when engine was cold the dipstick showed almost full.
After that i rode it to where i needed, and then after about 10 minutes i checked the oil level and it
was exactly full on the dipstick.
So i guess it's not missing oil. if i would add more oil it will show too much oil when engine is hot.
I'll keep watching it. strange oil. maybe i'll try a different brand next time.
