Anyone see that Honda is using the CVT transmission on the new Honda cars like the Honda Civics ?

Lots of new cars are using CVTs, Nissan does on the Qashquai (or whatever it is spelled, lol), it is an upgrade over the traditional planetary auto transmission, but I heard heat is a big issue on CVTs on cars. I wonder which belts are used for cars?. www.nissan-global.com/EN/TECHNOLOGY/OVERVIEW/cvt.html

Nissan has been using a CVT transmission in the Altima since 2007 or 2008. My 2013 has a CVT transmission. That said, it has been replaced twice (last year). They are still working the bugs out of the technology.

I have heard about that. CVT's are a really clever, really simple concept. I would imagine you would need a big belt, and a way to dissipate some serious heat if you were to use one on a car. I'm sure it would be simple enough to solve. , you could run an air conditioning system in the CVT case, if you had to.

If an engine chamber that is on fire can get cooled by water, why not a transmission?

Subaru first offered a CVT back in the 80s, and they offer them in cars today. If anyone can do it right I think they can.

I was told my Focus has a CVT, but the Ford mech said it's a dual-clutch auto. I definitely feel up-shifting occurring, which makes me think it really isn't a CVT. Or else isn't anything like my Piggy's.
Check my sig line for the official jargonese.

Wow , I'm pretty behind when it comes to CVT in cars!

My 2006 Ford Freestyle has a CVT in it. It's nice that it doesn't shift though it doesn't have the punch when passing.

I am finding people actually do modify car cvt transmissions to get much higher speeds. I am thinking a car with CVT would be a good start for a scooter mechanic to start learning car mechanics.
