Hello, I have a Genuine buddy 50cc 2 stroke, I was riding it today going about 37mph when the engine just died, not slowly like if you hit the kill switch but just turned off. Tried to turn it back on turns over fine but no start. I waited ten min and it started up, but after going half a mile down the road it died again, this time losing power slowly before dying. Checked the 2stroke oil and I had plenty, stock engine never had issues. Last time it died, the drive belt area started making some noise, not too loud just noticeable and has not done that before
Any suggestions on what could be happening?

The more I think about it the more it seems like it's either running lean and over heating or the oil is not getting to it, any thoughts on next step?

i don't know much about 2-strokes, you could pull the spark plug. after that idk.

First off pull the belt cover to see if you have a problem in there,,,,if everything is kosher then I'd be thinking oil injection has an issue

So another update, after the engine cooled down all the way, i tried to see what would happen if i tried to start it, and i would not start, and not only that, but it sounded much different turning over then usual, and it seemed like the starter was having a harder time turning the engine over. It's almost as if the compression was not very good. Ill test compression later this week, I don't have much for tools at the moment
But i really wanted you're guys input, does this sound like the engine overheated and warped the cylinder or the wall and now the clearance is not good? And if so, would a 70cc upgrade kit fix everything or do i need to do more to the engine?

you could have seized it from lack of oil,,,the injector may not be working,,,so the new cylinder and piston may be a viable option,,,they sure are cheap enough,,,then go with premix on the oil/gas and eliminate the injection altogether

If you have seized it is a easy check. Most lean condition Seizures can be checked by pulling off the Head Pipe and have a look see at the piston, This is the Exhaust (Hot) side of the piston and the most likely side to Seize. The Ring will also Collapse from the high heat, will start but not good. A leaky Crank seal can also cause this type of seizure, Common in Two Smokers. If this is the case you will need to fix the lean condition before throwing new parts at it. Hopefully you don't have this problem. Best of luck.
