I was just cleaning out my CVT because some excess grease got on the belt and case from the clutch I just installed. While I was turning the variator I could feel and hear clanking noises. When I rotate it it clanks and I can feel vibration from what sounds like or feels like something hitting the crank or maybe something else? I can only feel and hear it from the variator side, not the flywheel side. I was thinking maybe the rollers, but it feels like it would have to be bigger than a roller by the vibration and sound.

What dose it sound like when it runs. It sounds normal, like it usually sounds. I was just on my way home, on a 10 miles ride and near the end I heard something weird, like flopping sound and the power cut down, but not out. I imeediately noticed I can no longer reach 30 when going half throttle... I took the case off thinking it was the belt slipping or something, and it smells liek burning rubber, but the belt was just as fine as before I left... The scoot acts weird now, liek it sort of jerks when taking off, doesn't go as fast as it used to from a stop, but can still reach up to 50, though after the sound I was purposefully riding at 20 the rest of the way home (a mile from where I was). The ride feels smooth but slower, but the weird rubber burning sound, the clanking when I turn the crank by hand, and the jerking and slow performance is worrying me that I might need a new crank? I have no experience with cranks, don't know what to look for to diagnose the issue, or anything.

Usually with a bad crank you will be able to hear it all the time . I'd like to hear the noise If that's possible?

I don't have an income right now, purchasing a new crankshaft alone will be a stretch for me.

from what you describe it doesn't sound good. i've never had one go bad but i would expect it to get worse (if the crank is truly failing). you should know soon enough if that is actually the problem.

The sound went away for the most part but is still there after it cooled down. I'm not sure exactly what it could be. I could reproduce it somewhat randomly while turning the crank by hand. Also, I noticed when I turn the crank the oil drain hose makes gurgling noises sometimes.

Take the variator off, then turn the engine with the flywheel to see if you still hear that sound. Look at the variator to make sure it's not toast-- the posts the 3 v-guides ride on. Then, by hand, forcefully move the crankshaft in/out/up/down on the variator side to check for play.

The oil drain hose?
Which one - the one from the engine valve cover, or the one from the gearbox?
And by chance did you check to make sure the engine still has oil? The sound kind of seems like your oil pump scavenging for oil when there is none.

I don't have an income right now, purchasing a new crankshaft alone will be a stretch for me. I def understand that. If i wasnt gluing together most of the plastic body parts like I've been doing , it would take awhile to get it back on the road . the main front fairing on my scoot without the little black vent looking things is all one piece . its $170 alone shipped to the house. Mine was cracked under the nose straight through , about a 6-7 inch crack. you can see in the pics I sent the long crack were the deer hair was. There is also a 4 inch crack on the outside of the fairing , where the fairing goes down the front side of the scoot. It also looks pretty bad because of all the scraps and there is some nice chunks taken out of the fairing where IT scraped the ground. I need to buy the lens for my turn signal light on one of the mirrors , that shouldn't be much . but yeah , I feel you lain , even when I have the cash to buy something , my wife is like " what did you order now ?" , lol. She doesn't like to see $ going towards the scoot , especially since I mainly bought it to save on gas. After all the mods and little things here and there , I don't think I've actually saved any money by purchasing the scoot. It more or less has just become an addictive hobby for me.

Removing the variator and then spinning the crank is a good idea. There have been times " especially with the koso " my belt would sound almost like that. My belt was a good bit tighter with the koso , considering it was starting higher in the variator and further down in the clutch. But , def remove the variator and see if the noise is still there. From the video it sounds more like variator - belt noise.

The sound kind of seems like your oil pump scavenging for oil when there is none. The oil hose I am talking about comes from my valve cover and leads all the way back to where I was showing it in the video above the CVT. It was making gurgling noises like there was pressure pushing oil out of the hose on every turn and I could smell oil each time it gurgled. Bad valves? Maybe this is where all my oil keeps going? BTW I have a full pan of oil, dipstick shows oil at the top of the patterned part of the dipstick, I just added oil yesterday though.

I was just looking at my old variator and noticed the 2 sets of weights I am using (8.54g and 8.00g) are very slightly different in physical size. I am going to switch back to weights all from the same sets and see if I stop having wierd issues, as wel as check the crank with the variator and belt off.
