little over a month ago my air box hose was cracked. bought a replacement but it didn't have an opening for the egr system. OK, i thought no problem, i've read you can run these scoots without it. needless to say it ran poorly but still ran. over the next couple weeks i tried to solve the poor idle and believe i eventually made it worse. about 2 weeks ago i couldn't keep it running long enough to ride so it's been sitting.
so as time went on i forgot i never hooked the egr back up. today i researched how to remove all of it. now it's completely removed but i'm not sure how to plug the exhaust valve. had an idea to put a bolt and seal it with gasket maker. it takes awhile for that stuff to dry and i'm not sure if it;s going to work. i've read some remove the top piece and screw in a metal plate. i don't have the tools to drill or the metal plate so want to use a sealant.
any ideas? should i just let it dry over night or is their something that will work better?

this isn't mine but it is the same. i removed the hose then i used a bolt and gasket maker to attempt to seal the hole. i'm guessing it will work but probably won't know until tomorrow. anyone have some fool proof advice to seal that hole so i don't have to do it again tomorrow.

Might try wrapping a hose clamp around it, over the bolt head and under the housing. Though that fix may last, I would still order a proper cover, or go to a muffler shop and have one made.

Mine was cut off and welded shut by the previous owner. It eventually became unplugged so now I use a "muffler repair kit" which is basically like some sort of acrylic glass or something. I've been using it for months and months without issue to plug the hole. They are only supposedly useful for a month, but they are designed for cars, so our tiny scoots don't really wear it down like a car muffler would.

Mine has a small plate that goes where the valve is. I did another scoot by putting a piece of hose on the valve, put a bolt in the hose and put a clamp on the hose to hold the bolt in. You can probably order the cover plate on ebay, or make one out of aluminum or steel.

When I had my old stock head I just capped off the hose with a rubber plug and zip tied it to the frame,,worked great,,now I have a non EGR valve cover,,awesome!!
So glad you found the problem man,,you thought it had something to do with a line....I even removed and plugged my ACV valve on my carb,,runs better,no popping on decel or anything,,the only holes you will find on my scooter are the fuel line and valve cover breather vent,,thats it..

OK so i took that piece apart and found the valve had 2 pieces of metal. one thin for the valve and one thick that was curved and screwed in place on top of the valve. took that off and pounded it flat with a hammer. put it back together and seems to be a good seal. that plus the gasket maker and i believe i'm good to go.
after i was done putting all the plastic back i did an oil change. found 3 small pieces of metal. thin as wire and shaped like a chain link. i'll post pictures later tonight or tomorrow. i'm wondering what part of the engine it's from. never seen anything like it in my oil before.

I'm guessing here, and a picture will tell us a lot.... it might be a spring from one of the seals.... or part of a bearing cage? Have you had the valve cover off recently? Maybe something got thru the cam chain cavity?

Maybe something got thru the cam chain cavity? i did a valve adjustment about a month ago so yeah i'm fairly certain that was after my last oil change. i don't know what could have fell in, i usually try to be careful. although i did have the air hose off the carb for multiple days recently. really not much traffic in the garage but i guess something could have fell in. i'll post pics soon.

You know, I've thought about getting the sizes for that, and the EGR port on the heads of these bikes, and then sell block off plates. Just a nice little stainless steel plate done on a cnc plasma cutter with a couple of hex cap machine screws... Kind of a kit.

well back to the drawing board... it is running better but still isn't right. still seems to have a vacuum leak. i wonder if the valves are damaged?

You know.... we were talking about metal in the oil.... Pull the cam and take a good hard look at the valve springs. Maybe it broke one.
Any nasty noises?

How many miles are on this scooter? Did you spray starting fluid around the carb and intake just to rule out any cracks or leaks? IF there are any the motor will speed up when you spray it.
