So I bought my brother's scooter. It was brand new 3 years ago, and still pretty much is. One day it died on him pulling into the driveway, and he couldn't get it to start. Im thinking easy enough, gotta be dirty gas, carb, fuel delivery, something right? Here's what confuses me. My brother took it to a mechanic and says the mechanic stuck a butane torch down the intake and got it to crank right up... What's the deal?
I plan on taking the carb off, cleaning its ports, replacing fuel lines and going from there. Sound about right?

Unfortunately, "doesn't start" doesn't tell us anything that would help diagnose the issue(s). Give us a bit more info and we will try to help, such as
1- Does it turn over when you turn on the kill switch, raise the kickstand, pull in a brake lever, and press the start button, but just cranks without starting?
2- If it doesn't turn over, does the starter motor out solenoid make any noise (clicking or scraping/grinding)?
3- Have you tried to kick start it (with the kill switch on, kickstand raised, and brake handle pulled in)?
4- Have you checked the spark plug and coil connections, the spark plug boot can vibrate loose? (could have happened when he hit the driveway)
If the mechanic got her to fire with a butane torch, a carb cleaning could be the simple answer, or fuel filter, or fuel/vac line leaking. Let us know the symptoms when you try to start it, remember you only need feel/air, spark, and compression.

Its turning over just fine and sounds fine attempting to start as well. No grinding or any other abnormal sounds. I will post back once I test the spark plug, fuel delivery and change the deteriorated fuel lines. Thanks for the reply and sorry for the lack of diagnosis information! I know to check all of those things you listed, just didn't include that info in my initial post. My apologies. I will post back soon.

Well if it fires with fuel injected into the intake like a propane torch then you have a plug somewhere from tank vent, tank,to pilot and main jet..I would see if you get a good stream of fuel at the carb inlet first while cranking the scooter,,just to rule out anything simple upstream from the carb.

I agree, probably a fuel delivery issue, or valves.
If the three basics check out, spark (visible), fuel flow (clean carb and filter & good fuel and vacuum lines), compression (blows your finger off the spark plug hole), I would normally bet the bankroll on valve lash, check it next, .003-.005mm (I set both at .004).

Ok, So spark plug seems to be ok. Starter seems good, getting it to turn over quite well. The issue seems to be that its not pulling gas from the tank at all... Most of the fuel lines look to be in bad shape, so I will start there first. But I can tell it really just isn't getting gas to the carb. I took the air filter off and sprayed carb cleaner down into intake and she cranks right up for a short moment. Is there a device that is supposed to pull gas from the tank somewhere in the line? Possibly the metal box with the gas line going to it and coming back out to carb area? Pictured here: Other things that have me guessing are the condition of this device connected to side of carb. Pictured here: I noticed the two wire leads going to it had been melted together at some point and it appeared as if it had been removed and put back a few times. Note the plastic rings all mangled up. Other than those noticeable issues there is a wire/plug coming out of main harness that apparently, has nothing to connect to...is that normal?...pictured here:

Does it have the tank in back above the carb or in the floor, if up high probably the vac operated fuel petcock, if below electric fuel pump may be bad. Also just looked at the photos, with that hole in the vac lines if vac fuel petcock then it is not getting enough vacuum to pull fuel from the tank.

Replaced all lines, shot some carb cleaner into intake to prime it, cranked right up! Thanks for all the input!

2013 paladin 150 cc 600 km on it is having starting troubles. I can get it to start sometimes, but when I shut it off and try to start it again nothing happens. The clock goes blank when I push the start button, and nothing happens. I turn off the ignition key and the kill switch and the clock has reset back to 12:00. I let it sit for a while, sometimes it will start. When I shut it off again I get the same trouble. I have changed the start/kill switch and the ignition with new parts and still have the same problem. Runs fine once started. Any help would be appreciated. Mattsy
