How's it going . I was talking to a buddy of mine earlier and he told me about a 99 Chevy tracker his neighbor has. She is an older lady and she took the tracker to get inspected. They looked at it and told her that they would not inspect it because the frame is rusting out . they gave her a number to a junk yard , she called and they said they would pick it up in the morn for $200 . she said OK . I did some research and I found that there was a recall on them because the front cross member on many did not get the proper anti corrosion treatment and they rust out around the control arm bracket and will separate from the cross member. I told my buddy to call her and tell her I'll give her $300 for it. So he did and I'm going in the morn to take a look at the rust. The body is perfect , all new tires and brakes , even the spare on the back is new , the interior is also very nice from what my buddy said. I found a new cross member for $54.00 shipped. I'm not sure how many miles yet but a 99 Chevy tracker with 140,000 miles is listed as $3,335.00 in good condition .that's if sold to a private party. But I'm almost certain its going to be the cross member that is rusted not the actual frame , from what I read it happened to most of the 99-04 trackers . if I buy it , it will be 2mro , so I'll post a pic . I'll kind of feel bad buying it if its just the cross member . what do u guys think ?

I guess I can look at it like this : if the cross member is bad , most I've seen are sold for nearly $300 , so I'm sure a garage will charge at least that price for the part . then the labor would be expensive since they would have to detach everything from the crossmember . with labor I wouldn't be surprised if it would cost nearly $1000.00 for everything. The control arm mounts would have to be replaced because they are probably rusted out also. So maybe I shouldn't feel bad.

The tracker only has 99,081 miles . my wife wanted a little suv type vehicle , and its 4WD , so I bought it for her yesterday , here is a pic. You can't beat it for $300 . the frame only has one spot that may need a little attention , but its nothing major at all. .

The crossmember is rusted but its still solid , no holes or weeks spots. I have some stuff that you put over the rust and it seals it . you can also paint over it after you seal it. For 300 beans , you can't beat it.

After knowing what engine , miles and the features , I looked up the KBB price again . it is listed as 3,800 beans if sold privately.
