The new Powerlink belts arrived - well, most of them. The Kevlar from Miami came yesterday; the GY6 sort of came (I ordered 2 and he messed up & shipped only 1). Anyway, spare belts in hand. Here is a pic of the 2 belts --- the kevlar on the bottom. It shows no mention of "Kevlar" ---- I emailed the seller yesterday thinking he had sent a regular Powerlink by mistake. His response was: The kevlar has yellow cord inside the belt. I DO see a beige or slightly yellowish cord on about 1/3 of the belt. Is this what you guys have been seeing with kevlar belts?  THIS IS A POLITICS-FREE THREAD BECAUSE WE ARE, OF COURSE, POLITICALLY CORRECT FROM HEAD TO TOE !!!!    |

The Kevlar belts say power link also . from what I know the Kevlar belts have a model # that starts with 3. Like my 842x20x30 is a 30708 and the non Kevlar is 20708 and so on . I'll do a little research and get back to you .

I'd hate for you to have to order a new belt , but I would go down to a Napa store , and order the pl30737 from them . this way you will be certain its the real deal . then u would be able to compare it with the ones you ordered.

It sounds as if there are so many different fake gates belts out there that are coming from China . even the true gates belts from China come with the gates sleeve . so from what I found , most of the belts sold on eBay and from many scooter stores are fake . i found that moped motion , and Napa are a couple places that have been selling true gates belts . all gates belts should come in a sleeve, why would someone remove the sleeve before shipping ? That means it never had one .
There is a chance that some of the belts are using the exact same material as the gates powerlink belts and printing the gates brand so they can sell them at a much higher volume , but who knows for sure.

Notice how the yellow power link belt is cut on an angle , not even . I had one like that also . it was the one that came without the sleeve and sold as a Kevlar . of course the seller took care of it , but I'm sure now it was fake.

I saw the seller u bought the power link from on eBay had a 100% rating , but it looks like it might have been a bad call. |

Are you certain there is only one print and one thread style for for kevlar and non kevlar belts? I'm not convinced yet either way. We should compile some pics and send them to gates and see if they reply back. Im just not convinced that because a belt is different that it's a fake. Certainly there are fakes, but I'm not so sure about one consistency throughout the real Gates belts, quite yet.

I thought all real kevlar material belts had to have "Kevlar®" stamped on them since kevlar is copyrighted and owned by dupont?

The belts are not actually Kevlar , they are aramid . pretty much the same thing but not exactly. There is a gates China and a gates USA . I'm not sure how to tell the difference or if the gates USA even makes there own or if they still import them from the China company ? Watch this.
