Alright so I took off the flywheel of my 150cc scoot ,and noticed that a small metal piece was on the wall of the flywheel. Which means the flywheel has scratches and small dents in it. How did it get there and what is it? Shaped like a half moon. Anyway, I also noticed that a lot of grime was on the stator. (Its a bad stator) My stator has 6 copper poles and I was wondering could I upgrade it to 8? I already picked one out. Also do I have to get a "8 lead flywheel"? I dont think I have to. O and alleyoop, I replaced my fork oil no problem thanks. i57.tinypic.com/2w4cl0i.jpgi62.tinypic.com/14kfqet.jpgi59.tinypic.com/30kpx8p.jpgi58.tinypic.com/352j4eq.jpg ksaun123, onewheeldrive, ramblinman, tvnacman, dmartin95 JR, alleyoop, Doug, JerryScript, skuttadawg,

The half moon was probably the woodruff key. It fits into a slot on the crankshaft.

agree with onewheeldrive. hopefully it didn't cause any damage and you can just replace it.

However, with the 8 magnet flywheel, you can use it with 8, 11 or 12 pole stators. IMO, if you're going to replace the stator, go with an 11 pole if you have an AC coil, 12 pole if you have a DC CDI. The 11 and 12 pole are both three phase and the stators cost about the same as an 8 pole.. Also, if you have a 6 pole, chances are your R/R will need to be upgraded as well. 4 pin R/R are single phase,....

The woodruff key goes into a slot on the crankshaft. There is a notch in the shaft AND the flywheel--- so when you put the woodruff key into the notch on the crankshaft, you line up the notch on the flywheel with it too, when putting it on.
So yes, that is why your timing isn't right. Just look at the shaft behind the flywheel for the notch.

I heard the flywheel is the same for the 6 and 8 poles., I read up about them a while back . when it comes to the 11 poles , many have problems and have to rewire some of the electrical. Someone actually sent me their 11 pole stator and flywheel because they could not get it to work . I haven't tried it yet .

It's very easy to upgrade your stator... Yes, there is a little re-wiring but it's only a matter running three wires from the stator to the R/R. and you may need to rewire where your lights get power, but all this is very easy. I went the extra mile and bought all the stuff to make GY6 harness's but one could do it on the cheap by soldering or using cold fusion crimp connectors. If you need any cables built when you do your upgrade, give me a shout. Around $10-25 per cable/harness... depends upon how many feet of cable and the amount of plugs/terminals used. Oh, and you're free to "read up" all you want on 6/8 magnet flywheels, but you can NOT use a a 6 magnet flywheel with a 8 pole stator.

I saw a vid or read an article where someone tested two different flywheels and they where exactly the same , that is the magnetic points. I thought it was a flywheel for the 8 and 6. You may be right . I'll see if I can find it.

You are right about the 8 and 6 pole stator flywheels being different. Its the 8 and 11 that can be used together. I know Jr talked about this before.

I dont have any money to invest in a flywheel so I'm just going to get a 6 pole stator.
Great video and im ok on wireing things.
Also my woodruff key is misshaped, and I was wondering could I just lightly sand it a little? I know it's going to not perform like new but my stator isnt working good anyway. Then my weird cdi bypasses a bad stator for start up.

I found a 6-pole stator. Everything matches perfectly except the harness.
It has that 4 pin 3 female connection harness but I have a 3 pin 3 connection one.
The cable colors are the same they are just made with a different harness.
Can I wire my harness to the new stator? I dont see why it would hurt anything.
Just tired of recharging my batteries and lights not working.

Then my weird cdi bypasses a bad stator for start up. stator is under performing because of the broken woodruff key. i think you need a new key... it's in 2 pieces... no? the other half should still be in the crankshaft.

No my key is nothing like that. We was talking about the key where the flywheel is on. Mine fell out while I was trying to get my flywheel off.
