Ive been having fuel starvation problems The reason I know is because I checked the fuel filter and it was empty Im thinking it might be a problem with the petcock. Do I really need to use it or could I eliminate it and just use gravity since the gas tank is above the carb? also what would I do with the vacuum lines?

Yes. You can use gravity instead of the fuel petcock. The most important part of this setup is ensuring the fuel line has a downward slope from the tank to the carburetor.

You will need to put a manual petcock in place of the vacuum actuated one. Gravity will overcome the float bowl when not riding otherwise, and you'll come back to find your scooter sitting in a puddle of fuel. The most important thing is to remember to turn it on/off.

Yes, just run a single vacuum hose to the carb. You can get vacuum line plugs at the auto parts store if you just want to plug the line that you removed from the vacuum operated petcock. You should still put in some kind of manual petcock to provide for fuel shutoff. You can purchase a manual petcock from Amazon/ebay/what have you. They start at about $8. The hardest part of this mod is finding a place to put the petcock so that you can turn off the fuel without removing a panel somewhere.

Im not so sure the petcock was my problem im thinking i might need a valve adjustment. what does the vacuum line from the intake manifold to the carb do though? is it really needed or could i just plug it?

If one just wants to test the petcock: Bypass it for a minute and see what happens. Edit: The only vacuum I have is to the petcock. Not needed if using gravity. Your particular set-up may vary.... Edit: Valve adjustment is always good.

Take out the junk vacuum valve and replace it with a manual shutoff valve . I did this three yrs ago and its one of the best things I could have done. Your float valve will shut the flow of fuel off when th bowl if full . those petcocks are nothing but a useless piece of garbage.
