2013 Tao Tao 50ccWorth buying to flip, or would i be regretting the purchase? I suppose it comes down how much it'll cost to repair, and how reliable Tao Tao is. I don't need another scooter, and i don't want to spend a lot of money improving it, ie replacing belts, hoses, etc, just fix the immediate problem and reassemble the body.

If you have the spare cash, enjoy a puzzle, and have an end goal in mind. Why not?

If the engine and CVT spin good, it's a good deal. Cheap and easy to fix pretty much anything that doesn't require splitting the case, pulling the flywheel, or pulling the final gears. Each requires special tools or intense labor, everything else is simple. Make sure it's not multiple problems, one or two is cheap and easy, three or more shows lack of care by a previous owner, and could indicate more problems to come.

last year i sold a running 2011 Tao Tao atm50 with 15,000km for $300. Maybe i could have held out for more cash but i doubt it. you can get a new atm50 delivered for $700 if i'm not mistaken. i wouldn't buy it but then again i'm lazy and wouldn't want to do all the work. if you can get it cheap... much cheaper, say $75 or so then i would think you could make a small profit if you don't mind the work. (assuming everything is there obviously)
edit: i see in his ad he thinks it doesn't have spark. if you really interested then i would talk to him and find out exactly what he has done to the scoot. also that conversation will help determine his level of expertise which could help you determine how hard it will be to fix. and lastly if he seems knowledgeable i wouldn't touch it if you have limited electrical skills.

Taotao is as reliable as you make it and treat it.....its not a Honda its a Taotao..never had a problem with mine but minor things..I would not spend more than $250 on a non running scooter 150,,I see them all the time between $400-600 in running condition...for a 50 I would say no more than $150 if it needs work.
Like mentioned above,,brand new in crate to your door for $700....

As others have pointed out, you can get a brand new ATM-50 for quite cheap. However, if instead of fixing it up, you could part it out and sell the parts on ebay, I bet you could turn it into a nice flip.... I would not buy it to fix up, but if the add is accurate and all the parts are there, you could easily double your money without fixing anything. Part it out.

I'd have to work out retrieving it with my roomie as i don't have anyway to move it m'self. My thought was fix it up and sell if it won't cost much, or strip it for parts if it will, as cheap non-starting Chinese scooters pop up all the time.
