Out in the country its usually a flock of Turkey Buzzards around the next blind corner that get you. Once around Midnight I did sense a dark silent creature running alongside the bike and that was the one the really scared me. Think Florida Panther in the hill country chasing you after Midnight on a moonless fall night coming out of the pitch darkness. Glad I was on the Aprilia 250 and not the Lance with the flaky ignition pickup and vacuum pump that would run dry at higher levels of throttle. Hahahaha,,thats funny,,hammer down!!!!

The one thing I see here the scooter rider could have done is to WAIT...two extra seconds before being FIRST to enter an intersection.
That's what I always do. I never launch right after the light turns if I'm in front because too many people are either willing to run red lights (sometimes as late as 5 seconds or more after red) or distracted.
I CAN NOT believe that woman survived.
The third one, OMG.. RIP. That guy was writhing in pain on the ground but was probably dying from internal injuries.

Vid 1--how DO you fall asleep and keep going on a scooter? And for that long a ways? I'd think you'd either slump forward and thus roll the throttle slower, or slump back and speed up and fall off, or lose your grip and fall. Edit to add, or else just plain fall, period.
Vid 2--I agree that the car driver ran the light and was at fault, but the bike driver could've--should've--been checking left as he started then right, specifically looking for red light runners. 'Cause yeah, that car was really obvious long enough before the hit that the bike driver could've dumped speed.
Vid 3--just horrible.
But I noticed neither driver made any attempt whatsoever to even try slowing down in the least. It's like both of them were in their own little worlds. That's what happens when inattention meets not paying attention.
As for leaving the bike rider alone, the car driver does go to him very shortly after getting out of the car. And looks like they converse. Then car driver comes to the other side, stops again to apparently speak to bike driver who raises his arm. Then car driver goes to policeman (or whatever that official is).

Here's another warning at intersections, from my MSF class. And they got it from a couple bike-cops.
Always watch your mirrors when you're stopped at a light, until there's maybe three, four cars behind you.

First video: Slow it down if you can or do quick pauses.... Notice where her left hand is and her head goes down a little after seeing her the first time when she appears from the far side of the truck that was in the right lane. After she gets bumped, notice the cell phone that bounces across the road in front of the car with the video camera. She was not sleepng, she was texting. IMO, totally the bike rider's fault.
Second video: I agree with rockynv. The guy just blasted off right as the light changed without looking to the left or right before proceeding. Oh he looked left and right earlier...to watch the girl walk by then to check the pedestrian crossing timer. Funny, but this appears as another one of those crazy ninja rider wrecks where the rider lands on his feet after being knocked off the bike. IMO, legally I'm pretty sure the car driver would be determined as at fault. But!!, it could have been avoided by the bike rider making sure it was safe to proceed right after the light change.
Third video: I've seen this one before too and I cringe every time I see it. Hard to see if the rider's view down the road to the left is obscured, but it appears even as he comes out into the intersection from behind those black and yellow striped light posts, that he has his brakes on. The blue car doesn't even start to nose dive from braking until he is right at the crossing lane. The video starts right after he has already passed under the traffic lights at what appears to be a T intersection further back down the road. It's a red light then and you see the other car in that lane just come to a stop there. You may also see 2 other scooters at the start of the video that made it safely across before the car gets there. IMO, the guy in the car is clearly at fault.

Here's another video for discussion about defensive riding and also about awareness. Sounds like the woman made some comment. (unintelligible) I'm not sure of the first of those last words he said, but it sounded like "twas the reason I was gonna stop" Definitely heard "I was gonna stop" Yep, he was ripping along way too fast and he knew it. He knew as he closed in that he was not going to be able to stop in time. He actually started to slow halfway between that one silver car and the dark car up near the trucks. His tire/s chirpped at the last split second from his brakes being clamped down too hard in desperation. Funny, but I can see the gears turning in his head and the little devil on one shoulder (his right cuz that's the throttle side) and the good angel on the other (the left where the clutch is so as to be able to mitigate acceleration at least) ...... As he passes the silver car........ angel: "Say buddy, ya better haul it in a bit, there's a narrow steel canyon just ahead." devil: "what? We've done this before.... no prob Bob... let's go for it!" rider: "$hit". (starts to back off the throttle some) angel: "Oh My!!! we're going too fast. Do something!" devil: "Meh..What does all light and feathery know....we've gone Way faster than this before. B'sides, there's still plenty of daylight through there." rider: "$hit!" (fully off the throttle now and on the brakes and thinking.... I think I can I think I can I think I can I think I can I? .... angel: "OH HEAVENS!!!" devil: "Think skinny dude!" rider: thinking left, right, Left!, Right!, LEFT!!, RIGHT!!!! ...Too late and nowhere to go but in. "$HIT!!!!" (Full on sphincter clench that migrates all the way up and down him to fully over engage the brakes. Rider bounces between the two trucks (knocking both characters off his shoulders) then gets the indignity of being pushed over onto the ground as the trucks roll forward. "$hit"..... realizing he is down "oh" that hurt... in more ways than one...... "$hit" thinking.... "what the heck was I thinking anyway?" angel: (floating and fading away) "well I'm just glad he was not squished like the proverbial toad in the road" devil: (disappearing in a puff of putrid smoke) "meh.... you know ... $hit happens" Wait, I listened again. (several times) He DID say "there's no way I was gonna stop" idjit The problems here were riding too fast & target fixation and obvious misjudgement of slowing/stopping distance and the space between the trucks. He could have and should have slowed down. Actually there was a point at which he had open space to his left to get off the road since the right was closed to him because of the guard rail. But he was always, always focused on the space between the trucks. You go where you look. One should not fixate on a point while they are going. You don't have to spin your head around all the time like Linda Blair does in the movie "The Exorcist", but you do need to look around. When I ride I'm almost always plotting for an exit from my immediate space. (kind of like the way I was always on the look out for a landing spot back when I flew ultralight aircraft. And Sylvrekat is absolutely right about checking your mirrors when you're stopped or stopping. I had a close call once where a big truck came accelerating up from behind me at a light. He gassed it because I believe he assumed I was just going to blow through the light. I dodged over into the right lane where a car had just moved away from before he could hit me. I felt the whoosh of wind, bits of tire rubber and grit as he had his brakes locked up but still flew past me through the intersection......It was way too close...but it was my lucky day.... not really.. I was paying attention and did what I needed to do to save my skinny butt.

Here's another video for discussion about defensive riding and also about awareness.... A squid on a Gixxer (4-cylinder Suzuki street legal racing bike) doing about 30 mph faster than traffic, not looking ahead. There is nothing about "defensive riding" in this video -- he was, and probably still is, an offensive rider. One of those that makes the statistics on motorcycles look bad.

DOH! You're right about it not being defensive, but he was looking ahead. And that was part of why he crashed because that's about all he did... looked ahead but not for an exit from his situation.

Here's another video for discussion about defensive riding and also about awareness. Check this mess out. I think this is what war must look like. Bodies strewn around, chaos, destruction.

This is why I don't ride with groups of motorcyclists or scooter riders unless I know them all fairly well. It only took one idiot to wreck 7 other bikes, and I refuse to ride with idiots!

So the idiot who wasn't looking ahead or at least wondering why had everyone slowed down caused several wrecks. But I wonder what caused the first wreck/s?
As for Darwin between the semis, I think I would've taken my chances hitting the grass to the left. Plenty of room to swerve off there. Then again, I wouldn't have been going so stupid-fast that my only options were crash between trucks or crash in grass. I would've been able to brake in time. But unlike Paladin, I think this moron might've learned his lesson. He seemed pretty shaken. And scared. Although not scared..."itless" if you know what I mean and considering he never quit saying it.
I'm afraid I'm not very Christian towards drivers like that. I see one and hope he smears himself on a bridge support instead of involving innocent other drivers in his suicide.

What was Arlo Guthies explanation in Alices Restaraunt? Instead of creating a new pile we decided to add ours to the one that was already there. They turned one mishap into several all rolled into on big pileup.
