You can ride year round in Houston. -Alas, there are a lot of big pick up trucks on the road. -We have scooter dealers from Vespa to Jonway, and in between. -There are two orgs in town that hold regular group rides. -Alas, the roads are flat and straight. You have to travel a while to find fun scooter roads.

Not so much, it is convenient in the sense that there are lots of traffic jams that are easier to deal with on a scooter, but the roads are terrible, lots of bumps and stuff on the road, lots of hills as well, but is still better to be on a scoot than in a cage.

I live in Phoenix. You can ride year round here too. I live right in the center of the metro area, so fun scooter roads are a long way off. Phoenix is laid out on a huge grid with a bunch of confusing street names that go for 50 miles in any direction, and most all of them are 45mph roads where people routinely drive 55 plus. There are lots of scooter dealers here, but I don't see very many 50cc scooters on the roads here. If you can't go at least 50mph you will probably get run over.

Navigating in Phoenix can be tough for the unfamiliar. Its only a mile between 40th street and 48th street, but its about twenty miles between 40th street and 43rd avenue.

It's funny you mentioned that. I actually live right between 40th and 48th streets! LOL

Tons of scooters in Vegas. Warm enough to ride most any time of year. Good roads. Nice places to go within 35 miles. Lake on one side, mountains with trees on the other. Lots of scooter dealers and parts vendors. Several scooter clubs, and a fair amount of "bike night" events for both motorcycles and scooters. Lots of traffic, but I doubt that it is worse for riders than anywhere else.. You are required to have a regular drivers license to operate a 50cc scooter, and can't ride if your license is suspended or revoked (think DUI). I didn't know till a couple years ago that some other states let you ride without a regular license.

You can ride year round in LaLaLand -- Los Angeles, California. Mostly....
people in L.A. are laid back, not pushy. drivers are watching out for others, and yield to idiots. drivers watch for bikes and give them room. people expect slower vehicles on the freeway, and merely pass on the left.
We have a LOT more two-wheelers than we had ten years ago.

scootdude - I lived in the East Valley around 15 years (fortunately, during the World Series year). I worked at 48th st and Baseline a couple of years until my company moved me to Houston.

My city has just under 100K population and is a nice size for scooter riding. The climate is great mostly year round with the exception of the summer hot and rainy (humid). Traffic is mostly light except for the evening rush hour but there are always alternate routes for a scooter. Many lakes provide nice scenery and destinations for short cruises.

We usually have snowy and even icy winters. Although this year's been pretty good so far. Just miserably cold spells. Summers get hot and sticky, although I know Houston beats us there! I've visited my bro' there in July . Windy roads are a fairly short drive away, although it's mostly state highway so I haven't taken them. But grand scenery! I've seen bars with bike parking, and groups of assorted bikes driving, but haven't found out when/where they meet. There is--or at least was--a scooter club, but they met in downtown KC 25-some miles away via interstate. And I heard they were mostly pretty hardcore about their driving. Not the group for me! As for dealers, there's ScooterWorld towards this side of the metro, M&M on the opposite edge, and Reno's on the SE side. Sadly my Piggy-dealer went first to all-John Deere and Polaris, then out of biz. It's now an Indian dealer. But there's a real nice customizing shop a mile away that does my tune-ups. >'Kat
