my cn250 makes this bang noise when cranking. i cant seem to understand what it is, it will eventually start but the the bang its making is stopping it. i was told that the fuel was pre igniting causing it to fire at the wrong time. the engine has 10:1 compression. My battery was also fully charged. the engine also has a bunch of mods. here is a link so you guys can hear how it sounds. any help will be highly appreciated.

That clanking noise sounded kind of like a starter (bendix) pushing its gear out into place and slamming it into the engine gear. Your engine sounds really tight. I'm no pro though. Someone will come along soon and help you I am sure.

i can't view the video. however, the "bendix" is ALWAYS engaged with the starter, it uses a "one way" gear.
since you said the engine had a lot of mods, it will be difficult for anyone to offer much help.

Well for one thing you don't have enough cranking power. That's a DC CDI and I think the starter is sucking up all of the juice and leaving the CDI without enough power to generate a spark. Whatever mods you did ( a list would be nice) is going to require a bigger battery. Now I didn't hear a "clunk" or "clank" but an inadequate starting system will leave the piston up near compression and when you hit the start it kicks back. You can try advancing it past compression by tapping the starter with the kill set to stop. Then turn it back to run and hit start. Are you sure your starter clutch is OK? It can make a clunk if the little barrels are out of alignment or worn.

If the timing is off it will do that as well as when the valves are set too loose as they will close too soon and prevent the engine from cranking. Also if the carb is dripping fuel you could get hydro-lock which can also display a similar symptom. Combine that with a marginal battery or starter which will further amplify the problem.

Mods or no mods, your starter system is weak.
After you check the red power cable to the starter and engine ground connections, jump start it with a charged car battery and let us know what happens. Make sure the car is NOT running when you do this or you WILL FRY your voltage regulator.

I have the cn250. in Bali 250.. To me, that sounds like a valve adjustment way off.
