*** EDITED *** Skip to post #18 for update Hey gang, when cyber monday rolled around, a few scooter shops had sales and one of the items I've been watching for a while went on 15% sale. I purchased this kit for $340.00 USD. There are many sellers that sell this kit: partsforscootersGY6 storeDROWSportsSo, without no further adieu, lets get onto the review:

looks like a good kit, apart from one or 2 things. firstly the bottom of that cylinder skirt looks way too thin. from experience i know that it will surely get "wallowed out". secondly, when you are running any high rpm setup like that, get an oil cooler on it. it will pay off in the long run. www.facebook.com/partcooler/timelinethis company makes the best coolers in Taiwan.

I can take a measurement of the skirt wall. See how thick it is... That will give me something to compare it to.... This is the first bare, GY6 cylinder I've held so I have no idea how thick a stock skirt would be... As for oil cooling, without a doubt this engine will be oil cooled. However, I will be doing all the machine work. I found this really cool article that shows and tells how to tap the crank case at the oil pump channels. Here's a linkNow, I'm not comfortable doing it the exact way this guy did... I am going to use a 4mm thick piece of aluminum and seal it to the front of the crankcase where the ports are going.... The metal is just way too thin to tap right there without some kind of reinforcement. In short: I'll add more meat!

Pretty cool stuff. I would have liked you to check the size of the valves.
Can you link us to the review of he 2.5mm stroker? I would like to read that as what you are saying it says just doesn't make sense.

As to the 2.5mm stroker, I'm not sure I would call it a review. The link I'm providing is a discussion being held over at scooterdoc and Matt (fugaziiv) who I believe works at PFS was talking about drag and street builds with this same engine. This is the engine kit PFS uses in their drag stuff.... Read the whole thread, there's good stuff in their but what you're asking about is specifically in post #10. Here's the link.....

Thanks man! I was really hoping they would have ponied up for the 30/28 mm valve heads.
I still have my stock cylinder jug and will get you some numbers off of it in the morn.I can tell you from memory it doesn't seem to be much thicker.

I ordered a 150cc rebuild kit for Scootie, which arrived one day after he... passed . After measuring it, it seems to be a 155cc (154.93cc). The skirt OD is 60.54mm, the ID is 58.42mm, leaving a wall thickness of 1.06mm 155cc is assuming 57.8 stock stroke. If anyone wants any measurements off of this cylinder or head, let me know and I'll post them. Mine was an A case motor.

"Hard Numbers" are very hard to come by I have found and is what drove me to want to do a series of videos. 1.06mm is very close to my measurement. Mine was at 1.19mm but I don't trust my calipers accuracy... It's a harbor freight tool so use my measurements as a "close, but not exact" one,.....

Hey Shannen, did you ever read the thread I linked to? You can always send Matt a PM to contact him, that's how I got in contact with him....I never talked to him directly about the stroker, that was cyborg, but I too would like to know his results better myself. You have a chance to get that measurement yet?

Stock 150cc GY6 jug: 2.14mm thick
external diameter: 61.47mm
internal diameter: 57.48mm
(note the numbers do not exactly add up because of the difficulty getting an accurate large diameter measurement).

I think next year I'm going to have to hire some help for Nov and Dec. Hows this working out for you?

I haven't even started working on this particular build and not quite sure when I'm going to get to it. I still need to acquire a shop press and the case cutting tool. (actually the case cutter is for a different project.) I've been in contact with Taida and big things are happening for me, very fast.... I haven't really talked about it on the forums, but I will be doing a video series using Taida products. I may be able to do the 180cc soon, but I have a Taida 191cc (63mm and +3.5 stroker) to build. I also will be building a Taida 232cc..... BTW, Taida does sell "B", short blocks (for your 10" rim).... Back to the 180cc kit, I will be sure to keep you updated. I have a lot of experience wrenching on stuff.... However, I've never built a GY6 yet so maybe I should start with the 180cc just to get some experience.... I really wish I knew a seasoned GY6 mechanic to apprentice with..... I've read my Hayes/Chilton, watched 100's of youtube videos, talked with people on here.... I think I'm ready to do this but am still nervous... Reason I'm nervous is because all the scooters run so dang good I just hate tampering with them..... But, just like the 11 pole stator I did, nothing to it, once ya do it.... BTW, I have installed the electric fuel pump on my wifes retro scooter.... Haven't had weather to test it, but it starts and idles fine..... I'll also be sure to keep you updated on that project as well.
