Here is a nice looking scooter I saw on another forum, a mix of classic and modern design. It's called the FB-S It was a prototype that was never produced. From burgmanusa.com/forums/16-all-others/39329-why-didn-t-honda-ever-make-scooter.htmlA new-generation big scooter, the FB-S fuses a high-prestige design with a newly designed boxer twin engine to deliver a riding feel that's more like a motorcycle than a regular scooter.
- Length / 2,296mm - Width / 805mm - Height / 1,311mm - Engine type / Liquid-cooled four-cycle boxer-twin - Displacement / 399cm3
The FB-S Prototype: One more link in Honda's practicality series. Might as well call it the Helix Coast. It features a 400cc boxer twin engine mounted at the front. An automatic transmission delivers power to the rear, providing a ride that is theoretically more like a motorcycle than a scooter.I like the look of this scooter and with a 400cc engine, it's big enough for fun rides. Is there a scooter out there, produced or not, that strikes your fancy?

Wow, like a two wheeled Beemer! At over 7 1/2 feet long it is a big bike. (pity it never went into mass production.)

I like it in green. Very pretty.
But what size tires was it going to have? And what was the seat height?

I am guessing about the same as the Helix; about 26 inches according to Google. 10 on the back and 12 on the front for the Helix tire size, but with more CCs, maybe they would have made it bigger.

Ooo. 26 would've been awesome for me, better than the 31" seat my Piggy has. But I'd want big tires like my 16s, so that might've killed the deal for me.
So pretty though. Honda does make some really seriously nice-looking bikes.

howdy, with all of you probably, i think that 400 to 500 is the sweet spot where you get a motor not too highly stressed all the time and that can get very good fuel mileage and run at reduced rpm having higher torque. i'd also like to see more choices in that range but they don't sell enough units to make them practical. i guess we have to find one good one and concentrate there. the bv350 is almost there. the majesty 400 and burgman 400 seem to pile too much weight on to be really good.
lotsa miles and smiles to ya ken

Until I found scooters I was going to get one of these: Isn't that a sexy beast? and yes, these tiny scooter tires are embarrassing!

VERY sharp scooter concept!!!
The boxer twin would be great, and as far as it is up-front, I would imagine it also has shaft-drive. In all honesty, I think it was most likely too expensive to make, and thus it never got to market. The selling price would just have been too high for the scooter market. Just my guess...
Judging by the pix, those wheels and tires MUST be 13". or more likely 14". Good in proportion to this large scooter... Now c'mon guyz and galz... the little 12-inchers on my old "Minnie Mouse" are part of her charm... And they do just fine spinning like a presidential press-release at 75 mph... LOL!
They remind me she's a SCOOTER, not a MOTORCYCLE... or something... Little-bitty "Vespaesque" wheels rule on scooters! Again, just me... LOLOLOL!
Ride safe,
Leo in Texas

Whatcha saying there, spandi? You saying my Piggy doesn't look like a scoot-scoot? Huh? Huh? Just don't say that around my Mom. While she still isn't fond of "that thing" at least she's convinced it's not as dangerous as a motorcycle. (imagine that's actually a shushing smiley, since JR didn't give us one) >'Kat

Kat,
I've ridden the large-wheel scoots like yours, and I love the tall-wheel "feel". I'm still stuck in the past though, in love with the look of smallish scooter wheels. Just me, so long as they still handle well at highway speeds. somehow, even the little Vespa 10-inchers seem to be fine at 70+ mph.
For those who like the look of the old-school "wide whites" on my old "Minnie Mouse"... So do I! The old gal was just begging for whitewalls... BUT... My adventures in painting the rear tire have been pretty dismal at best. When you need a whitewall in a size that nobody makes, you can only "improvise"...
If you've followed my past threads on the process, I first tried "Dr. Whitewall" which did NOT stay put. Then, various white paints made for plastic and rubber. They too lasted only a short time, turning brown and peeling off. I finally ended up using "Motor City Whitewall" paint, and it is the best so far, but still not ideal. It DOES actually stay put, but somehow becomes slightly semi-transparent with age. This allows a little of the black tire to show through. But, I can live with it... Just looks a tad "dirty" as most whitewalls on motorcycles look anyway... Still, it looks better than the regular black tire on Minnie!
The paint problem stems from painting on a NEW tire. No matter how well you prep it, there's too much mold-release, oils, chemicals and "new-tire schmootz" oozing out and undermining the paint from beneath. I think the Motor City Whitewall paint will be OK so long as it gets touched up a couple times per season until the tire ages... It only takes a half-hour or so to re-coat. But, I cannot recommend the painted whitewall unless you want one REALLY BADLY! It's just more trouble than it's worth. It's much better it you can find a factory whitewall in the proper size, like the beauty of a Shinko on Minnie's FRONT rim... Yup!
Ride safe!
Leo (ridin' them itty-bitt wheels right of the old mouse) in Texas
PS: It's been below freezing here now for nearly three weeks!!!! EEEWWW... An all time record November cold snap for this area. Today it got up to 45 degrees and I couldn't help breaking Minnie out and taking a good ride. That GIVI windshield is a true "gift from Heaven"... 45 degrees, and comfortable with NO gloves!!! Woo HOO! Below 50 is no longer a deterrent to running errands on the Mouse!
