Hey all,
I just bought a used 2008 Chaun (according to the title) 150cc but the plastics say Adventure Limited Edition and lb150t-12. I thought it was a bargain but it may be more than I bargained for, there are a couple of kinks I need to work out. I am new these bikes so I want to get others input on the possibilities. I'm not sure if this has anything to do with it but the day I bought the bike I put unleaded in it (habitual, haven't rode one of these in years) and it requires 91 octane. I've been through about 1 1/2 tanks of premium since and the problem is still there however it has gotten better, it use to lose power around 30-35 now it does it around 40-45MPH. I took a look at the air filter compartment today to find no air filter, any reasoning behind that I may not know about or just lack of care? It jumps right up to 40 and I can stay there consistently but if I give it anymore throttle I feel it lose power/jerks then puts me down to maybe 37 then back up to 40 continuously, it does this through the entire throttle whether I'm at full throttle or not. There is some liquid in the air compartment but I see there are mesh screens so I figure those are there to catch liquid and this may just be excess. It also does drip a couple of drops of oil but it seems to be at random... I checked to see if mostly everything I could reach is tight and secured and it seems to be, I believe the electric choke was unplugged but I plugged it back in and it has seemed to help with a starting problem I was having, I was also having trouble idling at stop lights and I have adjusted the idle and it works pretty good.
Any help and input would be appreciated! Can't wait to see what you guys think and thanks in advance.

Also with the air filter, I am going to go to auto zone tomorrow, I don't have the money to drop for a KN filter that the auto zone rep referred me to, anyone know what I should be asking for as far as size wise? I've looked at a scooter parts website and have gotten the measurements of stock ones they are selling and plan on taking them into autozone and checking to see if I can't grab one.
Thanks again.

It needs an air filter it is getting to much air and not enough fuel that is why it falls on it's face around 40mph. Also you may want to adjust the valves both to .004 inchs. Alleyoop

That's awesome such a fast response. Going to buy one tomorrow and hopefully fixes my power problem. Once that's handled then onto the oil..
Thanks Alley

Great, if it still acts up a little on you after you put in a filter that will cut some air off then you will have to adjust the carbs Fuel Ratio Mixture a little. itistheride.boards.net/thread/12/4ts-carb-tuningAlso find out where it is leaking oil. It could just be from the valve cover if it drips a little by the front of the motor. If you can take some pictures that will help determine where it might be leaking from and what can be done. It is right in front of the motor actually, will post some pictures tomorrow of my situation! Awesome to see knowledgeable people still exist on the internet! I'll definitely read the tuning thread tonight and sleep on it.
Thanks again for the knowledge.

It's always entertaining to see what the DMV puts on the title. >>Factory Webpage<< Taizhou Chuanl Motorcycle Manufacturing Co.,Ltd ADDRESS:Shangzhang industrial Area ,Lunan Street, Luqiao , Taizhou City,Zhejiang Province 318050 link:http://www.longbo-motor.com TEL:86-15858643000 FAX:86-576-82781330 E-mail:longbomotor@126.com Exemplar photo: If it's dripping oil from the front of the motor it's probably just the valve cover. Messy but not critical so long as you don't let it run low. You can seal that up better after you pull the lid to adjust the valve clearances.

Ok so I bought the air filter and installed it, I noticed when I removed everything in the air box there was some puddles of oil, the guy at the shop said it was spitting oil back up and probably caused the last air filter to become soaked and was probably why it wasn't there. I cleaned the box and checked the oil, I noticed it covered all the X's on the dipstick plus about half a inch which may explain why it's leaking oil? I tried to follow the oil and it kind of makes sense, it's dripping all over and made a puddle on some plastics by the fan on the bottom and is dripping from there. Well I removed all the oil and cleaned the filter and put in roughly 27-30OZ its half way up on the dipstick now. Seems to have more power behind her now but she is still jerky but now around mid 40's and upper. I can tell the scooter is feeling better from the changes but now I think I need to adjust the fuel air as suggested but I'm a bit cautious cause I'm new to this I wanted to try all the "easier" things first. Any input from anyone on what else it could possibly be besides the air fuel ratio being off? After reading a post on here I noticed people talking about a Japanese carb starting with a H but I can't recall the exact name, well it has that with all the original markings as Alley suggested and a spare used NGK spark plug so I think someone else took the time and maybe lost interest. The gentleman I bought it from said he paid 180$ to have the carb rebuilt while he owned it (he owned it approx. 9 months) so I think it wont be a huge repair. I just have to continue familiarizing myself with the thing. I'll keep this updated just in case anyone else runs in the same problem.
The oil is dripping mostly after running for long periods, since cleaning the air box and getting rid of the oil in there it hasn't leaked that I've noticed, I ran it for about an hour after changing the oil and cleaning the box.

It is really easy to adjust the carb just follow the procedure I wrote up and just take your time it is a step by step procedure. All you need is a flat head screwdriver. And yes if you overfill them they will spit out the oil through the vent hose. So always make sure the vent hose is not clogged at the end. I tell folks to take the Valve vent hose and take it off the airbox and put a fuel filter on the end of it and zip tie it high on the frame and then just plug up the connector on the air box. That way it will never get clogged and always vent. Alleyoop

Will be doing that as well once I get this adjusting done. Appreciate all the advice! Thanks
Jack
edit-
While we are at it, I plan to replace all the hoses with the blue and green type from partsforscooters.com (Helix I believe) but I'm not sure which size I should be going for, does each specific part have a different size or is it more like one size fits all per type of engine? Any input would be appreciated, tomorrow I'm going to get into the carb and figure I'll take a look at all the hoses and clamps to see if everything is squared away.

Hi all,
I have been messing around with my scoot and have gotten it running better, today while I was adjusting the carb air/fuel my turn signals and hazards stopped working randomly, everything else works, headlights brakelights and horn. They are not blinking on the dash either, the switch and hazard button feels normal, I pushed it off the center stand to test out my adjustments and went for a ride and noticed they weren't working but the previous ride I took they were which was about 30 minutes prior. I doubt it is the bulbs since they all stopped working at the same time, I checked the fuse by the battery and it looks good. I think something came loose but not quite sure if I need to take the plastics off to check if they are all good to go. Any suggestions? I'm not familiar with the wiring on these things either but I learn quickly.
Update on jerking, it got better after my first adjustment then I adjusted it again and it got worse as far as top end speed and when it jerks. I changed the oil and got some seafoam in her crankcase, I will be adding seafoam to her fuel tomorrow morning. I will also fiddle some more with the adjustment to see if I cannot get it just right.

Your flasher problem is probably just some connector that got loose or the flasher relay that went dead. You'll find it under those front plastics.
Happy trails.

Hi all,
I wanted to update just in case anyone came into this problem. My top end speed problem is fixed, thanks to you all and your help! THANKS!
Added new air filter Complete oil change Cleaned spark plug Adjusted carbs air/fuel Ran some Seafoam through the crankcase and in the gas tank.
That fixed my power problem, however my blinkers and hazards are still out, I pulled the front cover off and disconnected my headlights and took a look around in there to see anything lose or out the norm and it all looks squared away however I don't see a round flasher (I just googled what they look like on our scoots). I checked all the connections under the seat just in case and followed the wiring as best as I could. Is there anywhere else a flasher could be put? The bike pictured above is truely a replica of mine, color and all lol.
