I have a Taotao 150 EVO I have recently been having what I believe are some exhaust issues that I can't seem to solve. Recently the scooter has been much louder than it ever has before and I haven't been able to find the cause of this change. This is the stock exhaust I had taken it off about a year ago to paint it as it had started to rust but no other modifications. At first I thought the exhaust gasket needed to be replaced but I have tried 2 different gaskets and still have the issue. It still seems to run fine but it is quite loud especially when accelerating. I am not sure whether I just need to replace the entire exhaust or if there might be something else wrong. Any suggestions on what might be the issue? Thanks in advance for any help!
-About 4000 on the odometer -Regular oil changes -Checked the valves and they were set correctly -No major modifications, just replacement as stock parts have failed

Mufflers that come on the scoots are not of the best quality. Baffles inside the muffler to devert the sound waves have broken off and is whey it is now louder. Alleyoop

Thanks for the reply! I was thinking that was probably what was wrong but I just wanted to make sure it couldn't be anything more serious. I am hesitant to order another stock replacement as this one hasn't lasted very long. In the past when I searched for an aftermarket replacement I could not find one that I was certain would fit my scooter.

If your lucky you may find an aftermarket system that will fit and bolt up BUT most likely you will have to do some modifications to make it fit. Alleyoop

Lots of people hog out all the inner guts on stock mufflers. Loud is safe!!

Lots of people hog out all the inner guts on stock mufflers. Loud is safe!! Agreed... These little 150's even with a wide-open straight-pipe are not all THAT loud. My Kymco 250 with a new factory muffler is nearly as loud as a GY6 150 with a straight-pipe. The Kymco scoots I've ridden all seem to have a little bite to the exhaust-note when you open up the throttle...
I sorta like the "bark"... LOL!

I put a performance muf on and after running open header it felt like something was missing when I rode it. So I not only cut 5 inches off of the length of the muffler (clearance issues) I also removed all of the glasspack from the internal. Now because of the open expanse of the muffler it has a nice deep thump when riding it and isn't obnoxiously loud. But it's loud enough that it gets the attention of drivers around me. Like I said loud is safe. I also kinda like the looks I get from people on the street when they hear me then see it's just this lil ol timey looking scooter making all that sound. lol
