Just to let you know , there is a reason they carry gates and not bando , it's because gates is the # 1 belt used in cars trucks and scoots etc. in the U.S and abroad . Bando is not a bad belt but still dosent quite match up to gates . U put a gates and a bando down In front of riders before a coast to coast round trip and the gates will be chosen at least 97% of the time. If you add that " if your belt breaks you owe $10,000 .00 " then it would be more like 100% choose gates .

Hello geh3333, i picked up my clutch with the new spring and put everything back together, however it seems I had not tighten the variator nut enough and everything came flying off. Thank God I was in the garage checking and nothing got damage. However I was not able to find the washer that goes between the variator fan and nut. I used another washer that I had but it is probably not the same diameter. How important is this washer? went for a ride and first impressions are the belt seems to grab better. I did no realize it before but I think I had some slippage which help a bit on take off. Now the bike seems to take off more linearly and holds acceleration more steadily. I will be able to confirm acceleration details soon as my buddy and I get together as he has a scooter and we always do a before and after about the belt, the shop owner told me the gates premium has the VE writing on it. Also the 1500 rpm spring made it a lot harder to get the belt on, I just hope this whole washer situation is nothing I need to worry about. I made sure to make all bolts very tight this time. Thank you Ital

When I do a belt, I usually put it on the clutch pulley, then give it a good tug. It will usually open the clutch pulley enough so it will sag in the Variator a bit. Then when you tighten the variator nut, you can be sure it seats the driven face fully into the splines. If the belt is too deep into the variator, then it's much harder to make sure that driven face is fully seated.
The washer spreads the load of the nut, so it is pretty important. Take the nut and the driven face to the hardware store and find a washer that will work correctly. Ace seems to have the best selection of Metric Hardware unless you have like a Grainger in your neck of the woods.
Most Auto part stores and home depot have a very limited selection of metric hardware.

Hi guys, just wanted to give an update. When I ride the scooter I am feeling vibrations at high speed. It seems it is coming from the variator/clutch assembly. Should I be worried about this and could this have caused my belt to shred?
I do not think it is the clutch, perhaps I should try putting the stock variator back on and see if it goes away? As of now I've been taking it easy to avoid the vibrations as I do not want to be left stranded

New belts, or a new variator with an old belt, can cause vibrations until they are worn in.

Thank you for the reply. That Makes sense, since I bought first new hoca variator, I did not change the belt, and the belt broke 400 miles later with 2k miles on it exactly (Gates Premium). I now bought a new belt (Gates Premium again) and I have about 300 miles on it.
I actually rode the bike again today and it felt much better (35 miles). It is getting cold here in the North East already so today might be the last ride of the season for me (I still got to ride 35 miles back home).
I will be giving Valentina a full tune up\inspection in the winter and I will report back for an update :-)

If the clutch is more then 3 years old I would replace it.
