I have a Chinese made TaoTao 50cc which I've been trying to beef up. I've made some heavy modifications, but I'm not getting the performance I want. This is a list of what I've changed. - 100cc big bore kit
- Big bore cylinder head
- Upgraded CDI timer
- Upgraded timing chain
- Performance clutch
- Performance ignition coil
- Improved spark plug w/ a hotter load
- Performance exhaust
- I know the previous owner did modify the roller weights, but I'm not positive on those
- And a bigger jet on the carburetor
When I first got it I struggled to reach 30mph; now it has significantly increased acceleration, but I top out between 35 and 40mph. Any suggestions on what to change or add?

You'll need to get a tach and then start messing with your weights. With those mods, you should be able to reach 40-45. One thing to keep in mind, generally speaking performance clutch setups are for fast take-offs, not for highest top speed.

Night think about checking your valve gap. Try .004 top (intake) and .002 bottom (exhaust). You tube has video's on how to do it. I always like to start here.

The exhaust valve should be gapped looser than the intake, .003-.004 intake and .004-.005 exhaust. You want to let a bit more flow thru the exhaust to prevent overheating of the exhaust valve. The intake valve is cooled by the fresh air & fuel flowing in, but the exhaust has constant heat and therefore expands a bit more.
