I was testing the socket with some leads, and grounded it out. Now I show 1V DC. It's not a fuse, and I just reassembled the thing after spray painting (dark Hammered paint). What else is inline? I can't find a manual or schematics for the thing.

What else does not work on the lighting also check to see if it is charging, put a multi meter on on the battery and start it up and rev it and see if it is charging. You may have blown the R/R.
Got to ask what leads where you using to test the socket? Alleyoop

Leads from my multimeter. Touched across hot to ground testing at night, low light setting. I switched from high to low beam and back, I read 1V DC on either wire.
Turn signal display hasn't worked since I bought it. Replaced marker lights. Everything else seems fine.
Bulb was burned out, so I was looking at installing some fog lights I got for $12, will likely have to put a 35W bulb in. At least they would be positionable and clear lenses.
Why would it be running 12V AC and not DC? It wouldn't show a constant voltage on DC setting if it was AC. Everything else is DC voltage.

I'd be looking for at least 2x the a/c current equivalent to the actual dc wanted. Rite? Only after an a/c wave (like off the stator) is Rectified dose it become d/c. So his a/c "lightning" wire (...from the stator) is only 1volt?
...and the turn signals/hazards are usually D/c ...not needing the engine running to operate

Ac volt meters read roots means squared (rms) . 12vac will illuminate the bulbs . The white wire off the stator goes to the regulator and splits off before the regulator . The regulator pulls the ac voltage below 14vac .

Okay, ya. It's AC, which seems dumb, because it would make it easier to run 12VDC for lighting.
So can I run 12VDC lights, or is it going to kill the battery?

Before, had the panel above the muffler falling off, also exhaust was starting to rust. Repairs done. Only part here not done is the control panel hanging down. Have about $15 into fixing this at this point.
